There was an album released with nothing but James Brown's
instrumentals. I can't remember the name, though, anyone?

Do you mean the 2CD comp (Soul Pride, I think)?

yeah, it was genius. It had no shouting or yelping or that stuff. I remember it sounding really engaging and diverse for that reason.

and ddicks right of course...by the early mid 70's it wasn't as if the vcls were much else but punctuation anyways.

great hooky punctuation though

Be careful of the ones that say "DirtStyle" on them. Sometimes they have other instrumentals on the record that are NOT James Brown.. and they contain all these songs that are just a bunch of weird sounds and stuff.

(I'm going to hate myself for posting this shit tomorrow but i'm so goddamn tired. Squirrel Police, please don't hate me... it's just today.)

I've got "Soul Pride" -- i don't enjoy or listen to it nearly as much as i thought i would. Great photos in the book, though.

I like Soul Pride, but I only listen to the second disc. God, Tighten Up is just the shit. The drum solo isn't even like J.B. beats that later became dn'b breakbeats, it IS drum n' bass.

Oh. Yeah. I should really look at the names of the people I'm replying to.
