Busta Rhymes being on every remix that gets released these days, C/D?

I mean seriously.
They should just cut his name from the title of the track, and the word 'remix' should just infer Busta's participation.

Classic.

Cameo Whores II: Busta vs. Sean Paul vs. Method Man & Redman

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Strangely, that link goes to Cameo Whores I. Either way I like 90% of Busta's cameo work and he's on like half a dozen truly great almost better than the original remixes.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

(not 'strangely', Alex. Part II is a "thread that never was but could've been". Or this thread might be it)

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

A mod can feel free to edit the title of the thread if neccessary.

djdee2005, Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm still excited by twista's increasingly frequent remix appearances.

ww, Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the validity of guest spots comes down to "Do you really want to sit through an entire album of Nate Dogg?".

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Dom OTM.

And no, there's no Busta album worth sitting through,
ditto Twista
ditto Lil Kim
ditto Jadakiss
ditto Fat Joe
ditto Method Man

best record of high number of cameo spots *and* good albums?

Missy (though her last two have been...middling)
Ghostface (though he ain't a cameo king)
Mos Def (though not for a while)
Killer Mike
Jay-Z

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 19:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Some people are better in small doses than across a whole album (like Nate Dogg, for example).

Busta's albums are a bit hit or miss, but he also RELEASES a new album every year and each one has at least one or two great tracks (and a bunch of filler). At some point he's going to have a really nice comp of his best singles and remixes which will be worth listening to beginning to end.

And Method Man has never released a bad album (except maybe the How High soundtrack which I've never heard.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, Tical is easily the worst of the first round of Wu solos. His 2nd album was a spawling mess. How High was just appalling.

Also, Busta has a "best of" out, but it's a little old, doesn't count his tracks from the past 2 years. But they've been style over substance too. Always depresses me that Busta, with his great flow, never says anything worth listening to (See: Missy Elliot)

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh your one of those "substance" guys. Good luck on that.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:02 (twenty-two years ago)

it's a funny thing to look for in "art" huh.
oh wait, this is entertainment. that's why it feels good for about 3 minutes...

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Wowza that's only 2 minutes and 59 seconds longer than most "serious artists" manage!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

man tical is great...i lurv that album...even the 2nd messy one is okay in spots...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Plus Blackout is FANTASTIC!! People who diss Method Man records are crazy.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Ok, whatever. You love substance over style. How postmodern, or (ageing) Gen X, or whatever. But there's an important question here:

MCing is about what they say, as well as how they say it. Do you really not care about content?

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

MCing is about what they say, as well as how they say it. Do you really not care about content?

Why does "content" always equal "humorless preaching" with you guys?

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Always depresses me that Busta, with his great flow, never says anything worth listening to

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Wordplay in and of itself is worth listening to! Have you never actually listened to what is going on in "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See", "Dangerous", "Gimme Some More", "What It Is", "What's It Gonna Be?", "Woo-Ha!", or "Everything Remains Raw"?????

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I fail to comprehend why Busta's remixes are any shorter on content than oh let me guess MF Dooms.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Chuck D had content out the wazoo and I love him to death, but his flow was akin to that of a retarded sheep.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, if I can speak on behalf of "you guys" (not sure who we are), it's not about humorless preaching at all. Some of the best MCs are funny, interesting, weird or ballers (see: Dre, Jay-Z, Doom, Cee Lo, Kardinal Offishal, Jeru, Ghostface, Jean Grae, Biggie, Killer Mike, etc)

But there's a distinct group who rhyme mostly about being on a track (party style), which is as boring as underground MCs who rhyme about keeping it real.

Busta's covousier? don't give a fuck. Set your ass on fire? please. Break your Neck? meh.
Missy's contributions to dreck like "party in damascus"? Pass the Dutch? Or, for that matter, "let it bump". yawn.

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah but CHUCK had the VOICE. He didn't need flow.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

TS: "RAH RAH LIKE DUNGEON DRAGON/STILL KING OF THE FLOW/WHILE MY MINK BE DRAGGIN'" vs. "And she be dealing with some issues that you cant believe /single black female addicted to retail"

C0L1N B3CK3TT (Colin Beckett), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

erm, they're both on one side: crap.

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Paul, go back and listen to "Scenario" and realize that everyone you've listed has bitten of of Busta in one form or another.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I think both Missy and Busta are pretty funny and interesting, but I guess that's just shallow old me deluding myself.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone arguing w/ Paulhw has been pretty oTM so far except for that part about Chuck D sounding like a retarded sheep. Wrong.

djdee2005, Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm curious now. Who on this thread has actually heard a retarded sheep?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Everyone on this thread who thinks that Kardinal Offishal or Ghostface was influenced by Busta's verse on Scenario...just don't be knowing their hip hop.

and, btw, you didn't answer my question:
what is substance, for you, if the voice itself is style?

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Something I don't care about when I am listening to music.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

(Actually that's not entirely true, but what I think you consider to be "substance" is not something that I find terribly important when listening to music, yes.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 20 April 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Genesis is pretty strong album I would think, esp. if you pretend that "Pass The Courvoisier II" is on there.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I am not an expert on hip-hop, yet somehow I manage to avoid saying wildly stupid things like Ghostface Killah and Kardinal Offishal were not influenced by Busta's verse on "Scenario" because I know that EVERYONE WAS INFLUENCED BY BUSTA'S VERSE ON "SCENARIO".

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but where and when did you hear a retarded sheep, Dan?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

style and substance aren't neccessarily separate things paul!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

"where is the substance in citizen kane?"

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Is it the snow in that little globe?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

it's his 'stache obviously!

s1ocki (slutsky), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, Paul, why were you complaining about the Morrissey thread again? Because you're starting to sound like the end verse on "Panic."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)
