Jon Williams sez Unwound!
Alex In NYC sez Unsane! (Maybe. I'm guessing, actually.)
Roger Adultery sez Un! (And only Roger. Go ahead, prove me wrong.)

Scott sez Unrest!! Only cuz I'm listening to a Flin Flon record right now and i've had some beerz. (i'm like a 12 year old girly boy when it comes to mark robinson i'm afeered. i heart flin flon. i heart olympic death squad. i heart air miami. i heart grenadine. i heart unrest. oh, and i heart mark solo. aren't i sickening? )

And FYI-I heart Unsane and Unwound as well, but i gotta give the edge to the factoryrecordsgeek cuz i have met the enemy and he iz us. er, me.)

Unsane is grebt also!

Untouchables!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never heard Unbroken! Are they all that?

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

And god yes, The Undertones are UNtouchable. The Untouchables on the other hand...

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:22 (twenty-two years ago)

They're pretty dope. San Diego hardcore type stuff..... kinda Gravityish / kinda Ebullitionesque. Moshy. Get "Fall on Proverb" from here: http://www.robotix.org/sounds/index_2.html

Acid! Polizei! (ex machina), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Scott, how can you hate on the band that did "Nic Fit"!?!

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I don't really hate The Untouchables or anything. I just haven't heard them in 20 years is all. They had some good tunes.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, and for people who don't know, UN were a Philly combo that put out an album on Siltbreeze and who used to bore me to tears at the Khyber Pass in Philly many moons ago. But they were hip or something. Underworld blow them away.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

unrest.

i think that's cause i'm still battling out universal order of armageddon vs. unwound in my head and finding no proper winner. uoa destroyed in the early rounds, but unwound just kept putting out great records. who wins, the wildcat that got away vs. the sweetie that stuck around?

but yeah, flin-flon... i can't believe flin-flon is used on CNN these days... have you heard that as background music?

msp, Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

No shit! I did not know that. Hope that extra cash translates into more beautiful vinyl packaging for me and mine.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, if i were being fair, which i never am, since i brought up Underworld, I would put Second Toughest In The Infants up against my fave Unrest albums and the result might not be pretty. But Unrest would probably still come out on top for their entire ouvre.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd probably pick Un over most of those bands too, not that that helps any.

I'm gonna go for Unwound, I guess.

Ian Johnson (orion), Tuesday, 25 May 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex In NYC sez Unsane! (Maybe. I'm guessing, actually.)

I digs Unsane, I does, but I'll cast my vote for THE UNBAND instead. Sure, they kinda suck, but they're funny guys who drink like Herculeans and lived in my friend Rob's guest house for a year back in the mid-90's, pillaging everything in their path. Bless'em. Also, Eugene Ferrari is a fuckin' monster drummer.

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

regardless of what ebay sez, the UN record is not worth $50 bux.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Wednesday, 9 November 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

in comparison with almost everything else that came out on siltbreeze back then, it's pretty duddy. i was just listening to the gobs on the midway fieldhands singles comp today and i almost shed a tear.

MEANWHILE, i just heard Positive Touch by the Undertones for the first time YESTERDAY, and it is one cool weird record. i always passed on it for some reason in the past. i don't think they ever did anything bad. so many people owe them money.

Unsane. Big garagey sound, head and shoulders above their 90's noise rock contemporaries. Got to go back and pick up some of their stuff.

wanko you know your Unwound aversion is strictly topical

Unwound, followed by Unrest

Unsane are/were cool, but i never really got in to them

latebloomer, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

i am UNdifferent!

(actually I'd pick unrest cuz I could prolly fill a mix cd with stuff alike, but all these bands are pretty overrated)

da croupier, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

stuff I like, namely "Disko Magic" "Strutter" "She Makes Me Shake Like A Soul Machine" "Cherry Cream On" "Suki" "Isabel Bishop" "Make Out Club" blah blah blah

da croupier, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

the unwound I heard was okeydoke but I'd never remember a song title

UNREST

sleeve, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:24 (eighteen years ago)

Unwound and Unrest both good, but Unwound had more good albums. I wonder how many albums Unsane sold on the basis of confusion with Unrest (I know I'm responsible for one).

Getting back to Unwound and Unrest, I think both bands broke up kinda prematurely, sadly.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:30 (eighteen years ago)

did you look at the COVER ART

wanko ergo sum, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 01:32 (eighteen years ago)

too late to nominate Thee Unmist (pre-Serena Maneesh, sorta) for contention? Undark?

Mr. Hal Jam, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

Unwound, but holy shit I forgot all abt Unruh.

NickB, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 08:38 (eighteen years ago)

Underworld

latebloomer, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

I have albums by Unwound and the Untouchables that are okay. I'm a huge Unrest fan, just a great live band with fleeting studio greatness. I know I like the Undertones. Haven't heard the rest.

Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

Re: Cover Art (xpost). I had read a rave review of Unrest in the NY Press around the time Imperial came out, but had only a hazy recollection of what it said. At the time, I was a big fan of Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Big Black, Suckdog, etc. So I get to the record store and realize I can't remember if it's Unrest or Unsane, and I'm looking at this sort of bland England-looking thing in one hand, and then at a dead guy on train tracks on the other, and I think to myself, "Which one of these looks like the kind of album I'd buy."

On the way home, right in the middle of "Maggot" I start to suspect that I'm not going to be hearing a sunny pop tune called "Cherry Cherry" anytime soon. I'm sure millions of others made the same mistake.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

unrest, without a doubt!

the mighty unrest, no contest

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

I think if you google justin there's something he did one guitar on. I thought Vern was living in Vegas?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

how the fuck can you call Unrest "mighty"?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Vern produced a record of some friend's of mine a year or 2 ago, i think maybe he was going back and forth between Olympia and Vegas.???

i got bored one day at work and googled the hell out of justin and eventually i found recent pictures of him backstage at an early decemberists show drinking an amstel light and talking to that head douche decemberist.

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

how the fuck can you call Unrest "mighty"?

Yeah, while one of my favorite bands of the last 20 years, "mighty" is not an adjective I would apply to them.

chaki, Saturday, 10 May 2008 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

Unrest for the records, Unsane for the insanely great live show (Unsane shouldn't have even been allowed to put out records -- so boring). Unwound somewhere in between. Salutes in passing to the Undertones, Union Carbide Prod. and Unholy Swill.

contenderizer, Saturday, 10 May 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

Vern's now playing bass with longtime friends Fitz Of Depression, or at least was in the past year or so.

I think Sara's still in Portland, and Justin's in L.A. doing their thing, whatever that is.

Mackro Mackro, Saturday, 10 May 2008 18:18 (eighteen years ago)
