Queer to the Core

First off, thanx to everyone who responded to my "whatever!"/very first question. I want to fuck all of you. "United States of Whatever" is now my most favorite song. Very Plasmatics, no? But I'm actually writing about "My West Hollywood Lifestyle...Whatever!" which immediately reminded me of Teddy & Darrel's These Are The Hits You Silly Savage!!!! LP. That's where two comedians (I'm assuming) perform campy renditions of "Wild Thing," "Strangers in the Night," "Hanky Panky," etc. But it comes off more creepy than anything, as if Stefan and Mother from the kinky art flick Daughters of Darkness recorded an album instead of torturing vampire lesbians. And "They Took You Away, I'm Glad, I'm Glad" is my vote for the first trip-hop track. "My West Hollywood Lifestyle...Whatever!" doesn't suffer from as much dementia. But it was written by a guy named Tedd of T-Ball and BJ. Godchildren of Teddy & Darrel?
Anyhoo, the Teddy & Darrel album is included in its entirety on Queer to the Core, a fascinating collection of gay novelty records mostly from the Camp Records label. Also included is part of the Pearl Box Revue's Call Me MISSter double LP. The liner notes say mint copies fetch $300 but I found a decent copy for $15. Anyone obsessed with the film Paris Is Burning should seek one out since it's a riotous round table on drag queens featuring Burning's Dorian Corey. But does anyone know anything more about these records? And what about Queer to the Core which I came across purely by accident around 1999? Anyone know who was behind it?

In keeping with the original spirit of the thread, though, there's since been a legit release akin to Queer to the Core. Et voila:

On Trikont. Not as good as Queer to the Core and would you know it, it's because of the amelodic punk tracks towards the end. Perhaps that's fitting. But there's nothing on Queer to the Core as ebullient as Harrison Kennedy's "Closet Queen."

I am not being your PAL, "Kevin John Bozelka!" >_<

Wait a minute. You never told us if you're pretty or not. We definitely don't have to be pals if you're pretty, sugar lumps.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 3 January 2008 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

You are wanting only ugly friends. Good idea.
