The last Beatles rekkid v. Booker T & the MG's covering the last Beatles rekkid. Considering I've heard AR like 80 million times, it's amazing that I can even stand it. And while I find myself reaching for MA more often these days, I think it's just because of novelty--I still rate AR better, despite crap like "Sun King," "Polythene Pam" and "Maxwell's Silver Hammer." "Oh Darling" is probly my fave McCartney vocal of the late Beatles / early Macca-Wings period (plus cool guitar arpeggios yo), "Something" and "Because" are still great, "You Never Give Me Your Mummy" rools, and the "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window / Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight" bit of the McCartney yadda might be the best medley he ever did.

Whereas the Booker T version sounds kinda played, at least at moments. Their version of "Something" is total dud, but they make "Sun King" totally nice, the "Because / YNGMYM" medley is pretty inspired, and bonus points for starting the disc w/ "Golden Slumbers." But there's nothing here as tightly grooving as "The Horse" or "Time is Tight." It actually sounds like they've been listening to Earth, Wind & Fire or something.

are you trying to suggest that earth, wind & fire weren't tightly grooving?

EW&F's version of "Got to Get You Into My Life" was, shall we say, lacking.

I still haven't heard McLemore Ave yet, though I have heard that version of "Something". Their version of "Elenor Rigby" is much better.

PP OTM re: EWF's GTGYIML. That was precisely what I was thinking of. Not "Shining Star," obviously.

fair enough.

EWF's "GTGYIML" is completely ace, you are all high

Dunno J0hn, I can't get past the galloping backbeat and unecessarily slick intro.

speaking of GTGYIML and tight grooves and intros, has anyone ever tried to figure out the beat of intro from the beatles' version? put in on your local cd or mp3 player. try counting it out or clapping along. have fun.

(add "the" between "of" and "intro")
(change "in" to "it")
(now read again)
