Wherein someone helps me sequence these, or suggests new trax. I guess the Branca leaves a pretty wide chronological gap, but the song seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Glenn Branca - "Spectacular Commodity"
Mogwai - "Like Herod"
Unwound - "Below the Salt"
Explosions in the Sky - "Greet Death"
Wind-Up Bird - "Become"

I was thinking Godspeed! was maybe to obvious/not essential enough (IMO), etc... Maybe something from Sonic Youth's SYR series, or Slint, but is that drifting too far away?

ISIS - weight

Sonic Youth-Expressway to Your Skull, with the locked groove at the end playing forever and ever and ever...

Aereogramme might work.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 22:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the Isis and Sonic Youth tracks are both great. I wouldn't have thought of using Isis because I associate them more w/ hardcore or metal, but that song does work well. Thanks!

Dirty Three - "I Offered It Up To The Stars And The Night Sky"

Nick Mirov (nick), Thursday, 22 April 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Either of the songs off of "Slow Riot" would work perfectly, and no more obvious than a Mogwai track.

SLeeeter Kinney (Leee), Thursday, 22 April 2004 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Though I would've picked "My Father My King," "You don't know Jesus" or "Ex-Cowboy."

And:
Mono - "The Kidnapper Bell"

SLeeeter Kinney (Leee), Thursday, 22 April 2004 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

disco inferno - "a crash at every speed", "a rock to cling to", "summer's last sound" which maybe is more pre-apocalpytic

The Gordons' first album... which was released when punk was still growing.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 22 April 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a long time since I last listened to it, but I think most of the tracks from DJ Spooky's Necropolis mix CD of yesteryear might fit the post-apocalyptic ambience you seek.

oom, Thursday, 22 April 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

if you're doing EITS, you should use something off their new album. "memorial" and "the only moment we were alone" are their 2 best songs IMOH.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Thursday, 22 April 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

"memorial" is great. might work well as a closer to end on a high note. that last minute effin' rules.
