eeeeeeeeeeee, Thursday, 22 April 2004 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Playing "Wasn't in the Bargain" to death. Looking foward to live version (maybe she'll open for Tortoise in LA)

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 22 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Azita's so whip-smart-icy-hot I'd be annoyed at any man for not finding her so! Funny how that goes, sometimes. Same for Eleanor of Fiery Furns

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 22 April 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Please mention other projects by her or ex-band mates please. stuff i've gotten into from knowing of her existance: Scissor Girls, Bride of NoNo, Monotrona, Dot Dot Dot Story, Math...

PeterALopez, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I am disappointed with myself for not seeing her play last weekend.

hstencil, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that Lake of Dracula lp had some Scissor Girls involvement, but I never heard it.

Broheems (diamond), Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I sure hope her show last weekend wasn't in LA when I was sick and not paying attention to the listings.

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 22 April 2004 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

No, New York.

hstencil, Thursday, 22 April 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

after querying people on nyhappenings after being curious for a year I missed the shows and finally this week went to the drag city site and listened to a song and it was amazing.

She came to Oberlin in 95 or 96 with the Scissor Girls and played at my friend Aaron's house(he was in the metamatics.) I don't remember anything about the show except what they were wearing and how few people were there and that apparently she told Aaron they really loved the Swell Maps also, which he was playing before the show on a mix, which seemed really cool at that time, I guess.

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

now you laugh.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i booked a show with her and part of the deal was watching her dog [she brought him on tour] while she was performing!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:49 (twenty-one years ago)

what kind of dog?

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:52 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, her dog is SOOOO CUTE. I really should drop her an email.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I should write something here, as I started this. I guess I missed the sarcasm. Thanks for clarifying, jack-ON.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't being sarcastic, taken as is I answered your question.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:54 (twenty-one years ago)

If there was a joke there, I missed it. Doesn't matter. jaXon I'm telling your mother on you.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

oh man, her dog is SOOOO CUTE.

That's no way to talk about John McEntire.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

No New York is the name of a compilation of no-wave bands from New York, produced by Brian Eno. Scissor Girls, Azita's old band, had some no-wave tendencies. The weekend I was referring to, she played twice in New York, and I didn't go to either show though I should have.

xpost jaymc that's not even funny.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:58 (twenty-one years ago)

winky wink wink wink
ok.

as I played the record constantly when I got it and was pleased to present a show that she opened I was feeling prickly about folks ridiculing her.

although I'm not entirely sure she possesses a sense of humor, she was very pleasant to hang out with.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

um, don't worry, I wasn't making fun. I count her as a friend (maybe it was the week in the van?).

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

also she has a great sense of humor.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Dog, clown, same diff.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Excellent, I'm glad I was mistaken about her. I think the band she was with or some guys affiliated with them were unfair in their portrait of her and she was probably sick of them/him and wasn't at her best that night.

And her story of driving her Montana posse in her van from Chicago as well as delivering them back was very amusing, now that I think of it.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The last time I saw her was at the Abbey Pub in Chicago, opening for Iron & Wine, whose fans clearly were not interested in her at all, ignoring her and talking over her while she did a solo set. It made me sad. I got up front and cheered very loudly. It made me wish I'd caught her headlining set with a full band the week prior.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I felt the same way at this other show. All the little indie kids backed away slowly with looks of pure horror. But I'm certain they'll eventually grow up and smell the cafe.

Thea (Thea), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Cole is some sort of new zealand sheepherding dog, i think. he looks like a german shephard, though. Very well behaved and im kind of scared of large dogs.

i grew bored of walking around the clubs block that i just brought him inside to watch the show. it was me, the dog and like 6 other people.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't wanna post his name. God he's so cute.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

listening to azita is like putting on eli and the thirteenth confession and trying to scratch. i love it.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i think metalux has sg relations. (??) cantwell, gomez, and jordan, an excellent band from chapel hill used to have one of the bonn girls in it...

my first intro to sg was their split with rastro (?) and slant 6 that slant 6 was selling on their tour with unrest eons ago. i just remember thinking how weird it was.

how does the new one compare to the previous one?
m.

msp, Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, Carbon was in Scissor Girls.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Monotrona and Dot Dot Dot are other related acts...

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

and Lake of Dracula.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Saw her play some new and old songs at a bar a few weeks ago, along with a cover of Pink Floyd's "Money".
