How did Tiny Lights end up on Psychic TV's label?

I don't know. But your question answers the question: why do I know about Tiny LIghts?

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 22 April 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard that Genesis loved Tiny Lights' "Flowers Through The Air" 7", which led to their appearance on his label.

mike a, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

AOD was from Vauxhall, NJ.

hstencil, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

well, he must at least go over to ira and georgia's house once in a while!

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

heh they probably practice in Manhattan, I'd bet.

hstencil, Thursday, 22 April 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 22 April 2004 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't Jesse from Op Ivy from Hoboken(hence the song)?

the schramms!

fact checking cuz (fcc), Thursday, 22 April 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
revive! (sort of)

So who else would've been a regular at Maxwell's in the late 80s/early 90s, besides the Feelies and YLT?

Not necessarily from Hoboken, e.g., Luna was sort of a successor band.

i'll mitya halfway (mitya), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 17:42 (nineteen years ago)

seven years pass...

Oh man this is fucking depressing. Maxwell's reopens as a Blueshammer venue.

From their events section:

MICHAEL POWERS

“If outrageous blues guitar is your thing, if the electric Delta blues Jimi Hendrix played fires you soul – but if you also appreciate the humble tomes of acoustic guitar – you need to check out Michael Powers” – Boston Blues Society
“Powers is the future of the blues” – Billboard Magazine

Yeah somewhere there's a really inadvertently hilarious profile of the new owners, maybe was posted on another thread?

that corner does not exist anymore in my world (nor does Hoboken)

Here's the original article, more entertaining than the blog post imo:

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Friday, 14 November 2014 21:24 (eleven years ago)

The blogger is right, Maxwells wasn't a dive. It was a typical restauranta/bar that happened to book many of the best bands of the last 30 years. Fuck 2014 hoboken and the fucking cake boss.

kornrulez6969, Friday, 14 November 2014 21:47 (eleven years ago)

Oh yeah of course, it was definitely not a dive. It was actually one of my favorite area places to play because you'd get to sit comfortably and enjoy a good meal and a craft beer.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Friday, 14 November 2014 21:48 (eleven years ago)

two weeks pass...

Stay hilarious, nu-Maxwell's

"Crewman Number Six (the name is a Star Trek reference) have been pounding out their "heavy, soul-funkin' hard rock music" for more than a decade" wow

anonanon, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:21 (eleven years ago)

sounds exhausting

Kooki-Wan Tanooki (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:23 (eleven years ago)

ten years of sisyphuslike pounding with no end in sight to the heavy soul-funkin'

anonanon, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:27 (eleven years ago)

*calls cops*

Kooki-Wan Tanooki (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:27 (eleven years ago)

no NYE with the Feelies eh

things lose meaning over time (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:30 (eleven years ago)

Don't worry everyone, I'm still far away from this stuff in downtown Hobok- oh wait.

There's no escape.

Evan, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

The spirit of the term "soul funkin" reminds me of that classic Eagleheart blues episode.

Evan, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

No eight nights of Hannukah, but Christmas show with Bon Jovi tribute band Slippery When Wet

Kooki-Wan Tanooki (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

xpost it sounds v blueshammer to me

hanley ramirez ordering a pizza (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:34 (eleven years ago)

Yeah my town is now completely devoid of culture beyond "COLLEGE FOREVER BRO!" though I think Ira and Georgia are still residents as well. Same with Todd-o-phonic. Haven't heard of any plans of theirs otherwise yet.

Evan, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:37 (eleven years ago)

sloth you should watch that Eagleheart episode if you haven't.

Evan, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:38 (eleven years ago)

whats eagleheart

hanley ramirez ordering a pizza (slothroprhymes), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:38 (eleven years ago)

Todd for a while was involved in booking concerts at the Jersey City Loews, was he not? That still happening?

Kooki-Wan Tanooki (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:38 (eleven years ago)

Eagleheart is one of those batshit adult swim shows that exist as a satire of a particular television drama genre then usually quickly become fever dreams. That episode stands out though. You'd like it.

Evan, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:48 (eleven years ago)

funny, I saw a preview of Eagleheart when Chris Elliot was the comic guest when The Trypes opened for Yo La Tengo duing the eight nights of Hannukah a few years back.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 2 December 2014 16:55 (eleven years ago)

xxpost

Todd has set up some shows there (Neutral Milk Hotel/Jeff Mangum for example) but he is working on opening up a new venue in Jersey City. Otherwise he has been booking the Bell House in Gowanus BK.
