does Windows Media Player use the Gracenote (cddb) database?

I just got a new computer (XP) at work and I am not allowed to install a 3rd party CD/MP3 player. My home-burnt mix music CDs show up in Windows Media Player with "unknown album/unknown song" (but purchased discs display their titles fine). I submitted the track lists of these CDs to gracenote long ago (via itunes from home), and the proper track lists used to show in the various shareware CD/MP3 players that I used on my previous work machine, and they show up for friends near and far on their computers. Does Microsoft have its own database? Is there some trick to get WMP to use the gracenote database? (Not a big deal, but it would be nice...)

You can do it, but I don't remember how. Sorry not to be more helpful.

Windows Media Player actually uses the AMG system. If it's not in that system, it won't show up. There is the option to submit burned discs from WMP to AMG but it only puts it up for review, and without a proper release it's unlikely it will be approved.

You should get a T-shirt printed up, with an arrow.

The old Windows Media Player (version 6.4 and below, I think) uses Gracenote.
