What colour makes the best music?

Not a race question, so back right down there, matey! Some Friday silliness coz I'm bored.

In the Red corner, we have 1-2-3-Red Light and the Red Krayola, but on the dud side, we've got Simply Red and Three Colours Red.

In the Blue corner, we've got Blue Monday and the entire genre of The Blues, but unfortunately, we've also got Blue.

The Green corner has Green Day and therefore is immediately disqualified!

The Yellow corner is looking like a pretty hot contender, what with Yellow Magic Orchestra!

The Purple corner has Prince all on his lonely, but it's a pretty groovy corner.

And then it's Back In Black, Black Sabbath and Fear Of A Black Planet up against Whitesnake and White Zombie. Oh dear.

Off you go...

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Prince has the Purple Helmets as back up. Subtle innuendo was never J-J Burnell's calling card.

Look forward to Blackie Lawless vs. Big Balls & The Great White Idiot.

NickB (NickB), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Green On Red and REM's Green are now wanting to pick a fight with me for dismissing the Green corner!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink!
The Legendary Pink Dots!!
Pink Noise!!! (the noise, not any groups who may have used this name)
(Early) Pink Floyd!!!!
Music from Big Pink!!!!!

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll give you Pink Flag and The Pink Floyd, but PINK?!?!? Disqualified immediately!

(I like this game.)

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Orange has Boards of Canada, Brian Wilson & Van Dyke Parks's "Orange Crate Art", on it's side but also the rather crappy Orange Goblin.

Yellow has The Yellow Balloon who are okay but also has Coldplay's piss-tinged MOR stuggle too.

dog latin (dog latin), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say prince also joins the "peach and black" camp...

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Friday, 23 April 2004 07:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I am (possibly sadly) prepared to defend Missundaztood any time, Kate. Tho' everything else is pretty much pish, granted.

{ kicks self for forgetting Pink Flag }

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hrmmm, Orange are definitely on the up.

I can't believe I had *forgotten* about that awful awful Coldplay song on the Yellow front. That actually took some studious mental avoidance to forget that!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

God, which corner does The Creation go in? Their music is Red with Purple Flashes!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

x-post

Orange Goblin = Good!

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

OEOHF Purple People Eater - classic
Green Manalishi wtTPC - classic
Red (King Crimson) - classic
PTFM White Boy - classicest!

weather1ngda1eson (Brian), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread makes me dizzee.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a huge case waiting to be made for Brown.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Go right ahead on the Brown corner before I start making brown and sticky jokes!

(It's easy, Nick S, just list some bands with colours in their names or song titles and draw judgements on whether that colour is good or not depending on the ratio of stuff you like to stuff you don't!)

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't want to do Brown cos it's a cacky colour, but surely James alone = +1,000,000 Points?

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:18 (twenty-two years ago)

We can't get into actual surnames, or else the number of classic tunes turned out by Barry/GREENwich would erradicate my dismissal of Green due to Green Day and REM.

Hrmmmmm...

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

James Brown wins this in a landslide. also, Pink and Green Day are grebt.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:27 (twenty-two years ago)

but what about Green Gartside? Usually, he's just Green, so surely that counts...

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Red Sovine?

Robbie Lumsden (Wallace Stevens HQ), Friday, 23 April 2004 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Al Green, Green Velvet and Green Carnation. And it's not easy being green.

Siegbran (eofor), Friday, 23 April 2004 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

"Green can be a problem".....i'd with Orange.

Ken Nordine - Colours

eleki-san (eleki-san), Friday, 23 April 2004 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Black! Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Big Black...if you like aggressive music, black's da color baby!

latebloomer (latebloomer), Friday, 23 April 2004 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

what about Maroon 5?

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 23 April 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Argh! Argh! Argh! On so many levels!

Firstly, do they go in the Purple corner or the Red corner?

Secondly, argh!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Green Gartside to thread!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 23 April 2004 13:37 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost neither color wants them...they're like tragic Mulatto (where do they go? so many questions)
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots scores for pink, though

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 23 April 2004 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure James Brown is enough to overcome Bobby Brown, though the Brown Dirt Cowboy might be enough to put them over the top.

So to speak.

Joseph McCombs, Friday, 23 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I was counting Bobby as a plus, not a minus.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

ween owns brown

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

but not as much as: Brown Reason to Live - Butthole Surfers

noodle vague (noodle vague), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Creamed Corn in the yellow corner, then :)

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Primus' Brown Album! Parliament's Chocolate City!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yellow was doing pretty well up until the moment I mentioned "YELLOW SUBMARINE".

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Blue Cheer + Blue Oyster Cult = BOW DOWN

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

x Bobby Blue Bland!!!!!!!!!!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Blue Note be makin jazz records!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my god how have I never seen that record!?!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 23 April 2004 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Yellow Submarine is a definite plus!

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 23 April 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I think I'll cast my vote with the Pink lot: Pink Lady, Shocking Pinks, Frijid Pink, Pink Steel.

Joseph McCombs, Friday, 23 April 2004 19:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Blue Aeroplanes act as a heavy anchor, guys

Orange Juice!

Aaron A., Friday, 23 April 2004 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Orange: The Orange Peels, Oranger, Orange Cake Mix, The Oranges Band (hmm, I guess orange is quite the indie color)
Green: Green River, Green Jelly, The Essex Green, Green Apple Quickstep
Purple: Deep Purple, New Riders of the Purple Sage

Nick Mirov (nick), Friday, 23 April 2004 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Indie kids just like Orange because nothing rhymes with it. (Except maybe Door hinge, but only in parts of Upstate New York.)

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 26 April 2004 11:30 (twenty-two years ago)

No question: Black.

I would've said blue, but for the existence of the godawful Blue Rodeo, described by AMG as "Canada's most popular roots rock band," which says it all.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I gotta feeling that (unless they can make some strategic allegiances) The Lilac Time ain;t gonna do to well in this.

Do Tangerine Dream fall under orange - and would it make any difference if they did?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Lilac = a kind of purple, so they can go off in the frilly corner with Prince.

Tangerine is certainly orange.

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a strong Scottish jangly blue contingent with Bluebells and Blue Nile - although "Blue Boy" by Orange Juice is suffering from divided loyalties.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Out On Blue Six are wondering if anyone remembers them....

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Will the Violet Femmes be allowed to join the lilac / purple contingent or will someone notice the spelling mistake?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 26 April 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

legion of green men - no other colour has an enitire legion on their side. not even a batalion.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 26 April 2004 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Another vote for the pinks, with Kissing the Pink.

auuV (auuuV), Monday, 26 April 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Would someone please theorize the pink/black dialectic.

no opinion, Monday, 26 April 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What about White? The White Album, White Stripes, Barry White...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

just colours, please.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I knew someone was gonna say that.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"hi-ho silver, ride..."

Silverfish?
Silver Sun?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 26 April 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
Yellow certainly would have Yellowman in it's corner.

Laszlo Kovacs (Laszlo Kovacs), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Boards of Canada rep every color though: ROYGBIV.

Also, Orbital with Green, Brown and Blue!

The Dreaded Rear Admiral (Leee), Thursday, 29 July 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hawkwind in with 'Silver Machine'.

What about James White & the Blacks?
Who are Husker Du playing for; 'Pink Turns to Blue', Candy Apple Grey?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 29 July 2004 23:04 (twenty-one years ago)
