I was always going to like this, but it's really pretty good.

Now would it be somewhat gauche of me to hope for a remix album?

If Moodymann & Carl Craig does the entire remix album, im with you.

word.

I like this, but I think in the same vein I prefer the Unabombers Electric Soul mix album from last year, where I first heard Amp Fiddler. Worth checking out, for sure.

i've been meaning to pick this up for a while. saw a used copy, but passed it up. then saw the new copy sells for 17.99$! doh! what's it sound like? i've read that he's tied into the broken beat scene like vikter duplaix, but then i listened to clips on his site that just sounded like d'angelo nü-soul. i just wasn't sure.

It does sound like D'Angelo, I suppose, though he is part of the Detroit Kenny Dixon/Theo Parrish "axis of goodness".

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 23 April 2004 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

it sounds like d'angelo but amp is less *conservative* sounding. viktor duplaix should just do *featurings* cause his own stuff is quite mediocre.

it sounds like a post-moodymann update of "talking book". it's not quite up there with moodymann, theo parrish or andres but it's a (big) cut above duplaix or king britt, etc.

the compilation ronan mentioned is also grate.

i am still debating picking up "the detroit experiment", i think i need to get over the indie guilt and just buy it.

four years pass...

I CANNOT get enough Amp Fiddler right now.
Especially:

Amp Fiddler Ft. Corinne Bailey Rae - If I Don't (Wookie Remix)
John Arnold Ft. Amp Fiddler - I Can Be
Patchworks - Sugar (Amp Fiddler Mix)
Only Child Ft. Amp Fiddler - U Bring Me Vibes

Ugh. Between these and Rima's This World, this week is defined.

Also, wondering if Jeremy Ellis and John Arnold should be in this thread, or...

PappaWheelie V, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 01:23 (seventeen years ago)

did those guys ever get good?

Isn't this guy George Clintons Grandson or Nephew or some kind of 1/4 or therabouts relation anyway?

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 22 July 2008 03:28 (seventeen years ago)

xp hahaha

my friend was the art director at ubiquity and we used to chill with those dudes all the time. jeremy ellis, john arnold, the fiddler, and i iirc joh beltran. i liked some of their stuff, but overall i couldn't really hang w alot of the broken beat/soul stuff that alot of the ubiquity roster was doing. amp fiddler has some really nice stuff and if you like that you may enjoy some of the early sa-ra stuff, their later stuff not so much.
