That's £34,000??!!

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Saturday, 24 April 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The gold one that they put on the Pioneer spacecraft... or was it Voyager? "Sounds of Earth."

maria b (maria b), Saturday, 24 April 2004 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

even allowing for misplaced decimal point they seem to want $343.75

I told them: "girl..., you need a change of mind" (waves finger & wrist in circle)

Wasn't that Northern Soul single about that price (and someone paid it)?

___ (___), Saturday, 24 April 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno - this site reckons someone paid about £15000 for Frank Wilson's 'Do I Love You'.

There are only two or three copies in existence.

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 24 April 2004 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

There was only ever one copy of this one, but as the link says, the owners took it apart.

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 24 April 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

That Eddie Kendricks thing is, I believe, pretty rare. The 35,000 pounds has got to be a mistake though. I'm not sure any record goes for that much.

Esp. for a record that has apparently been reissued on CD.

I thought this was, like, a well-known fact.

What the hell is Northern Soul and why are its records so bloody expensive????

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Sunday, 25 April 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

because its collectors are eedjits with too much damn money

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 25 April 2004 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

has anyone ever tried to counterfeit records? that would be cool.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Sunday, 25 April 2004 03:52 (twenty-two years ago)

People do counterfeit records. They even counterfeited 'Tigermilk'.

I thought the gold lettering stereo 'Please Please Me' was rarer than the butcher cover 'Yesterday and Today'. Anyway.

three years pass...

REVIVE!

Why? Because some Canadian chap's selling 100 12" copies of his (actually very good) single for £100 each, divided into 10 groups of 10, sleeves designed by 10 of UK-based artists:

"The hefty price tag is a statement on the value of music in general. Music’s value is subjective. How much you love a song has nothing to do with how much you paid for it."
