I was wondering if anyone has heard this recent release, of pre-'Quantum' music by Basil Kirchin? I will probably buy this anyway, as I love 'Quantum' so much, but I was just interested in seeing views on it. There are some venerable jazz buffs on ILM... ;)

I dig it pretty highly, though i must confess to being a fairly new convert - i'm only familiar with Quantum, the Wire article from the end of last year and seeing Dr Phibes on ITV about ten years ago...

but yeah, i really like it. Charcoal sketches is a sort of gentle psych-jazz tryptych which comes on a bit like a Birth Of The Cool/Clanger mash up. States Of Mind is pretty monged. Jazz freak in gentle echo, discordant and defiantly all over the place - hyper kinetic and then drawn out. It's great in clattery *challenging* kind of a way…There are some fairly bemusing liner notes ostensibly from a 'brain specialist'.

to my mind the only draw back is that it is only 26 minutes long, but more ain't always better...
