Hello everybody

I'm new to this group and so I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself. My name is Theodore, but most of my friends end up calling me T.J., much to my parents' chagrin. I will be turning 21 in August 2004. I'm in the tail end of my sophomore semester at a local community college (P.C.), and so I'll be transferring to the nearby university (A.S.U.) for the fall semester. I'm majoring in accounting as well as purchasing & logistics management, but I've been taking some science, humanities, fine arts, and music classes to round out my degree and broaden my mind. I have tried unsuccessfully to get an emo band together with my friends. They never take practicing seriously and we ended up falling flat on our faces at the gigs, and then it's hard to get new gigs. I love singing, and maybe I'm full of shit, but I think I have a pretty good voice. I used to sing in the church choir until they made it clear that they didn't want me singing in front of the church anymore. It had nothing to do with my voice, they just had a problem with me being gay, after I got dragged out of the closet kicking and screaming all the way. Oh well, I guess it was for the best... now I don't have to go sneaking around with my boyfriend and keep him a secret. Anyways, I love all kinds of rock music from the 1960s through today. The only things I don't like are hip hop, rap, most country, and any pop band/singer that is not talented enough to write their own songs, and play their own instruments. I am very much into emo/indie bands right now. I don't know what it is exactly, but when I hear a guy get all emotional and then sing about it, well let's just say, it's a big turn on for me. I love hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, swimming in lakes, motorcyle riding, dirt bike riding, bicycle riding, skateboarding, and snowboarding. I also like going for long, meandering walks with no real purpose. Oh and one last thing, I like trading mix CD-Rs with songs from some of my favorite bands. If you're interested, email me.
Later,
Theodore

Hi.

We seem to hate the same types of music. That's good.

Well... good luck.

Hello and welcome.
You might want to search the archives for the word "rockist" before getting into long discussions here. It'll help you prepare for the types of reactions your posts are likely to get.

Welcome! you might wanna note that a lot of us here love hip-hop, some of us love country, and many of us don't think that it's much of an issue whether a performer writes his/her own material or not - Pavarotti doesn't, nor did Maria Callas, for example, etc.

Does Norman Dubie still teach creative writing at ASU?
