nah the addiction came before the dark period. it led him to the dark times. or, like, although he was still boning chicks, it was part of a pathology involving drink, not for joy.

i think we gotta conclude that he's still a drunk but he's less self-dramatizing abt it and has reached a kind of stable plateau of alcoholism that'll persist until organ decline/failure/death
