It's by Nicolette, who also sang on "Protection". I have to warn you, though, that it's way more electro/drum'n'bass than Massive Attack.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

andres, the 1st slum village album, the jay dee solo album are all very good. there's a recent mix called "electric soul" by the unabombers that's fantastic.

i have to go dig through my music now!! there's about ten things on the tip of my tongue...

Have you heard of the groups Woven? and Gooding (check out the "3X" Gooding cd)...

mleslie (Michele Leslie), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The Nicolette album is really really good, and comes in absolutely gorgeous packaging. A magnetic box!

Erykah Badu, Baduizm and Mulu, Smiles Like A Shark also recommended.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Boohoo, I have no magnetic box, just an ordinary CD case.

On the trip hop side, I would also recommend "Clear" by Bomb the Bass.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

My first post... I feel lucky to have found this forum!

An absolute must-have neo soul classic is D'Angelo's Voodoo, and though I've seen it panned (inexplicably), I recommend Roy Hargrove and RH Factor - Hard Groove for a sweet and in the pocket combination of funk/jazz/hiphop.

Also, check out Ming & FS - for expertly rendered triphop.

AlienOrgasm (AlienOrgasm), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The magnetic box was the packaging for the version of the album which came with a remix CD... which is really good as well, mostly drum'n'bass.

God, I can't even remember what's 'trip-hop' and what's not these days.

Joseph Larkin (Joseph Larkin), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I was gonna suggest Nightmare on Wax's "A Word Of Science", but then I remembered it isn't trip hop... Or is it?

(x-post)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

That wasn't nice, Gygax.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

A bit long in the tooth - i'd say!...is this "jesus" a band name?
I'll check it out...

mleslie (Michele Leslie), Monday, 26 April 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

If you can get past the overearnestness of the lyrics, Raphael Saadiq - Instant Vintage is quite good.

The first Nicolette album is better than No One Can Live Rent Free in Your Head (which is more like a Bjork album than anything else.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Certainly not neo-soul but def. search: Shantel - Higher Than The Funk

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 00:57 (twenty-two years ago)

King Britt is a really big Cocteau Twins fan. He gave me a 7 inch once of a Paul Weller song remixed by Portishead. It was pretty good.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The last Me'Shell NdegeOcello album is wonderful

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...

The "stalker imposter" in question was not me, Joseph Larkin, but a stalker imposter posing as me! We are through the looking glass here, people.

Joseph Patrick Larkin (Joseph P. Larkin), Saturday, 10 June 2006 00:23 (twenty years ago)

On topic: the album that combines these two threads of music perfectly is Lina's Stranger On Earth.
