Couldn't someone at his label have intervened?n

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Brings a smile to your face.

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Andy Partridge is having a laugh, at least.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG HOLY FUCKING SHIT...

I really hope this a return to... FUCKING HELL, this can't be a return to anything. Todd has officially been beamed up! I really need to hear this record.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Wouldn't that almost ruin the experience, though?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You never know!

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I should also note this image from his webpage is wrong too:

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

This looks like he's almost gone Adam And mad!

"I don't wanna sit.. I just wanna help save the apes all day!"

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ant, even

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Songtitles are less insane than I would have hoped:

1 Truth
2 Sweet
3 Happy Anniversary
4 Soul Brother
5 Stood Up
6 Mammon
7 Future
8 Past
9 Wondering
10 Flaw
11 Afterlife
12 Living
13 God Said
14 Liar

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

There's something very Prince about 'em, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Japanese cover art, in contrast:

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Soul Brother

Somehow the very top image and "Soul Brother" seem to cancel each other out.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Easter Bunny's got soul.

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

At the AMG, Tom Erlewine say this:

After nearly 15 years of these kinds of releases, it seemed like Rundgren had drifted into the wilderness, where he was more concerned with technology than crafting albums, so it's an utter shock that Liars isn't only a carefully considered, carefully constructed record, but that it's his best pop album in over 20 years. Like any of his best albums, it benefits by having a loose theme or at least an overriding concept that focuses Rundgren. The title makes plain what the theme is, but in case you didn't catch it, Todd spells it out in the liner notes: "All of these songs are about a paucity of truth. At first they may seem to be about other things, but that is just a reflection of how much dishonesty we have accepted in our daily lives."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Huh?

Debito (Debito), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Just comparing the paintings from the early 70s records to this rather nutjob 7-minute photoshopped album cover above is just jaw-dropping.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry but every damn pic or video I've ever seen of this guy has always implied insanity.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

If anything the new album title and pic imply he's going for that Vice vibe.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 27 April 2004 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I wish that was actually the cover of the new Liars album.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Song titles include 'Gus Dudgeon,' 'John Leckie' and 'Steve Lillywhite.'"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Oddly, this being a Liars album makes more sense.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that's a great cover. Looks like something Sub Pop or C/Z would have put out back in the day.

the back cover's even better....he's sitting at a table getting ready to eat a basket full of puppies.
...

stolenbus (stolenbus), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The picture at the top of this thread is truly disturbing. If I had kids, I really wouldn't want them to see that.

bimble (bimble), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Todd Rundgren's finally lost his mind

Surely you mean legs, in the top pic at least.

Jez (Jez), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The new Liars album...produced by Todd Rundgren.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

YES! Latebloomer that's exactly what I thought at first!

bimble (bimble), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet this album's just full of that "white guy talk" I'm always hearing on TV.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Isn't this just more Todd Rundgren 'eccentic genius' schtick?

Bob Six (bobbysix), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

See the latest (May 2004) Sound On Sound issue to read a shite load more about this album.

I just wish I knew who he was and why I should listen to him, the Sound on Sound interview makes what he does seem rather pap.

TomB (TomB), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

eight months pass...
I want to see Alex's cover connection for this album, so I can buy whatever it is immediately.

J (Jay), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Get your wallet ready....

http://www.sanity.com.au/coverscan/25000/20398.jpg

Well? What are you waiting for?

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex's cover connection

Sorry Stewart, you're no Alex in NYC!

J (Jay), Wednesday, 5 January 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Peter Criss, call your lawyer.
