Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

For the longest time it was the Repo Man soundtrack, but I've since bought a replacement for that. Now it's Scritti Politti's Cupid & Psyche 85

Evanston Wade (EWW), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I once lost a Felix da Housecat mix CD for about a year. I didn't even like it all that much, but not being able to find it was annoying, it made me want to hear it even more than when I had it.

Eventually, I found it in a box in the basement. And after finally hearing it again, I again discovered that it wasn't all that good. And now I don't listen to it too much.

Dick Slessig Trio 'Live at the Yerb' CDR

(Jon L), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the Nuggets II box set took me about nine months to find minimum.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:38 (twenty-two years ago)

usually when this happens, I remember that I sold whatever it was I was looking for. I used to keep a list on Microsoft Word of all the stuff I sold but I quit at 6 pages.

Usually I misplace mishapen things because I have to keep them in different places - box sets, those pesky 5 and 8 inch singles, American Tapes elaborately packaged CDRs and tapes, and cardboard slipcases.

I made a mixtape today and could not find the Karp / Rye Coalition split or the Spitboy / Los Crudos 12". I swear sometimes I wonder if a hardcore kid didn't break into my house and purloin all my old records.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

still looking for my double-disc Wagon Christ - Throbbing Pouch w/ At Atmos EP. i KNOW i lent it to somebody.

heywood jablomi (heywood), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

First Choice - "Delusions"

Really fucking annoying. Has my all-time favourite disco song on it and is nowhere to be found since I moved house and all my vinyl got jumbled up.

Runners up:

Capone n Noreaga - "Invincible"
Gene Farris - "The fruity green"
Tom Wilson's Tartan Techno

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I misplaced some DVDs a few months back and I'm still made about it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Er, mad. Yeah, that's it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 02:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but I'm made that I can't find my Crew: Don't Flush The Toilet. It's the only one that exists. Or existed.

jim wentworth (wench), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Latebloomer. The only time I thought I'd actually lost a record I looked for it painstakingly enough to realize it had been stolen from me and I knew exactly when and where the theft occured, and who did it. It was a Mental Cube 12".

bimble (bimble), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 03:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the first two WIRE lps, a saul williams 12", and the new cee-lo cd... where the fuck do these things go!?

linus booth (downtown81), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Where the hell are 'So Tough' and 'Soul Mining'?

Not to mention the 'Inner City Life' 12". Actually, that's clearly in my mate's DJ box, but he continues to deny all knowledge.

Buffalo Stan (Buffalo Stan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Miles Davis' E.S.P. - I have the box but haven't managed to find the CD itself in two whole years of looking. If anyone wants to come to my aid with a copy, that'd be terrific. I really don't want to have to buy it all over again...

NickB (NickB), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn renovations!! Where the hell is Toots and the Maytals???

dwayne dibley (frownland), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:16 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 08:22 (twenty-two years ago)

going to buy the brazillian job mixed by the awsome Dj Marky on account of I cant find it in my house.

lukey (Lukey G), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

My compilation tape "Fascinating and Cool"

A bunch of tracks I created that are quite wide in musical remit. It's not even the tape I need, more the listing of tracks.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I made a great sleeve ready for the CD version.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I've ever been unable to find any particular album for any protracted period of time (yes, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder can be your friend, kids!) however:

In my living room I've got 2 bookcases which stand about 6'6" high (i.e. almost up to the ceiling) on either side of a corner of the room, with their outside edges abutting, thus creating a void between them and the wall, the depth of the bookcases.

Can you see what's coming?

Anyway, one day I was reorganising the shelves and moving things along to create a bit more space, placing piles of CD's on the top of the shelves when inevitably I heard the unmistakeable sound of a CD toppling over the edge and down into that void.

It took me ages to work out what it was (it wasn't Gene.... it wasn't Generation X.... it wasn't Genesis....) and fortunately when I did identify it, it wasn't one that I'd expect to listen to with any great frequency (to be honest, I'm not really sure how I came to own a George Gershwin CD to start with!).

Which really was just as well, 'cos it didn't see the light of day for the following three years, until eventually the bookcases had to be emptied and moved so we could have new carpet fitted!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Losing my copy of Exile in Guyville has made me very very sad

Sym (shmuel), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Doc at the Radar Station!!! If one of you guys borrowed it...

briania, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Apart from Stewart Osbourne you're all amateurs. I'm astonished at ned losing DVds too. Astonished and upset. This is not good enough. I may enter a 'location' filed into my database. At some point this summer I shall add my vinyl to the database. Losing CDs, honestly. Shameful.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Stiff Upper Lip by AC/DC. Where the hell is it?

Also, I can't find my sunglasses.

cw28 (cw28), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Beautiful Freak by the Eels. I have the freaky eye case but the contents are gone.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

one thing springs to mind. how f*ckin large are your houses ! damn. i have certain places for cd's littered about and the rarely venture beyond these places of Allowed Location.
though other adults in the house (ie my darling wife) has no idea how many cds are stored in the attic - thankfully !

mark e (mark e), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

This Nation's Saving Grace is not in its sleeve and I blame YOU

autovac (autovac), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It has nothing to do with the size of the house, and everything to do with the messiness!

Super-Kate (kate), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I was crushed at not being able to find Masada's "Live in Sevilla" and Lil' Stooges Brass Band's "It's About Time." I got so desperate that I re-purchased them both...Masada I found the next day, and Stooges is still MIA.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 28 April 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, once I thought I'd lost the CD of the first Pete Townshend solo "Who Came First". I had the case, but no CD. Eventually I found it in one of those dodgy "CD wallets" a well-meaning but non-music-fanatic had given me. This was totally my own fault. I had placed it there.

I can identify with losing something behind a gigantic wall of CD's and tapes. I fear for what I will be up against if another earthquake hits this town...

bimble (bimble), Friday, 30 April 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

a certain ratio - early

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Friday, 30 April 2004 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hypercity mixed by Andrew Weatherall. I have the case and even have it encoded as mp3s, but the disc?

It's hiding (dammit).

notder (nader), Friday, 30 April 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Game Theory, "Tinker to Evers to Chance." I misplaced it three or four moves ago. I wish I could find it.

mike a, Friday, 30 April 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick Drake "Way to Blue"

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 30 April 2004 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I got Missy's This Is Not A Test for Christmas. I haven't been able to find it since the beginning of January. I think my son's nicked it.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Saturday, 1 May 2004 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

four months pass...
Lost "Yank Crime" this afternoon.

Does anybody else wish there was an internet site with pictures of the SPINES of cd's so you could recognise them in your collection more easily? I mean, it's not enough to have writing up the side, we need PICTORAL AIDS PEOPLE!

Hari Ashurst (Toaster), Friday, 17 September 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Three albums that have disappeared from my place:

The Slits "Bootleg"
GandOf4 "Entertainment"
THe Pop Group "Y"

Criminals these days have such good taste!

peepee (peepee), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Wolf Eyes Dread

I have the case, but the disc is mysteriously gone. It's probably at my mom's house in some random boom box or something.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Friday, 17 September 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha! Sounds familiar. Until a couple of hours ago I had misplaced the disc of Beat Happening's Black Candy, I hoped by just hurriedly slotting it into some other case. The empty case seemed to be taunting me, so I checked randomly inside hundreds of other cases to find it. THERE IS HOPE PEOPLE!

Nag! Nag! Nag! (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Friday, 17 September 2004 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Lil Scrappy and Trillville.

I swear, I got sent *six* promo copies of this damn thing (which i like) in the mail, and now I can't find a single one. Now I think I might have given them all away to other writers by mistake!

chuck, Friday, 17 September 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been seriously involved with organizing my stuff and weeding the unwanted out for the past nine months (a LOT of things to deal with here!) and I think the only album I ended up rediscovering was my copy of The Cure's Japanese Whispers, which I still really need to listen to one of these days. Oh, and I totally forgot I even owned a Velvet Underground biography until I found it maybe a month or so ago. Every other unearthing was non-musical in nature.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 18 September 2004 06:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry my friend but i am very organized an know exactly where all my CDs are. You. Negligent. Monster.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Saturday, 18 September 2004 07:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Bill Hicks' "Rant In E Minor".

Don't know if I lent it to some unscrupulous "friend" who "forgot" to return it, or if I just misplaced it, and it will turn up the next time I re-organize my collection.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Saturday, 18 September 2004 13:20 (twenty-one years ago)

God, I hate it when you are reduced to looking throught all of your CD cases, lifting out the CD, to make sure no-one has put it on top of another. That's a depressing way to spend a day.

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Saturday, 18 September 2004 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I know I owned the Chosen Brothers' CD at one point. Fuck knows where that went.

dog latin (dog latin), Saturday, 18 September 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Awhile back I spent a half-hour looking for my original band-in-flames copy of Skynyrd's Street Survivors before remembering that I gave it to a friend. Which kinda reminds me of the W.c. Fields classic, "The Bank Dick":

Egbert Souse: Was I in here last night, and did I spend a $20 bill?
Bartender: Yeah, you were.
Egbert Souse: Oh, what a load off my mind - I thought I'd lost it!

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Saturday, 18 September 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

God bless itunes, is all I can say.

Wooden (Wooden), Saturday, 18 September 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

scott walker "til the band comes in"

amateur!!!st (amateurist), Saturday, 18 September 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Fosca's "On Earth To Make The Numbers Up" until I ordered a replacement

Atnevon (Atnevon), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I got Missy's This Is Not A Test at Christmas, FFS, and having played it once it vanished. I've turned the house upside down. I think the Hip Hop Pixies must've stolen it in the night.

noodle vague (noodle vague), Sunday, 19 September 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I can't find Amethyst Rock Star anywhere, and I've only imported 'Penny For a Thought.' I may have to download the rest of it, and I really can't be arsed.

Wooden (Wooden), Sunday, 19 September 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Just moved house and DNTEL's "Life Is Full of Possibilities" has upped and vanished. How I yearn to hear Ben Gibbard singing over hissing waves of static, and yet I cannot...

Bill A, Monday, 20 September 2004 15:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I really really wanted to hear Illmatic the other night and couldn't find it until the next day when the mood had somewhat passed by already.

Al (sitcom), Monday, 20 September 2004 15:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Just moved house and DNTEL's "Life Is Full of Possibilities" has upped and vanished. How I yearn to hear Ben Gibbard singing over hissing waves of static, and yet I cannot...

Free the Bee (ex machina), Monday, 20 September 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

What a great thread, found it while looking for old vinyl threads:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d195/richhunt35/celestialheavenlybodies.jpg

I thought this was Cocteau rip-off crap...I bought it in college and then my dad hid my old albums somewhere in the house and now that he died I can't find it! I stole it off Soulseek and...it isn't bad at all.

ReRecorded, ReMastered (Mount Cleaners), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

Colin Allstations (PaulTMA), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 21:20 (fourteen years ago)

This is indeed a great thread idea.

I've not been able to find the:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XP1ONSd0NVo/TGVrBk3ikWI/AAAAAAAABkQ/3Q9JocquD-g/s1600/Scott+3.jpg

LP for yonks. It is driving me insane. I know it's out there, but only moving out will bring it to light. Which isn't that far off. But still... I feel like I am leaving Scott to his own devices here... ;_;

I for one am (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 22:50 (fourteen years ago)

I've had an empty case for Polvo's This Eclipse wishfully hanging around for about 10 years.

lil wayne newton (Ówen P.), Tuesday, 16 August 2011 23:36 (fourteen years ago)

Japanese DJ Krush remix compilation. Have the case but the cd has been missing for several years. I know it's in another case or in a pile of CDr's but the thought of going through them all paralyzes me with dread. One day i'll run across it (or not).

brotherlovesdub, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 00:17 (fourteen years ago)

Carol Shinnette - "Cyanide Love" 7" - missing for more than 8 months and it's driving me crazy! it's not with the other 45's, so it's probably tucked away amidst the LPs or 12"s someplace, like inside a plastic cover sleeve. I've already checked nearly half my collection and have given up looking for weeks and months at a time...! meanwhile, my other boogie records wait patiently for it to join them.

I was looking for "Stop and Smell The Roses" the other day, to make Amber laugh after herself having seen "500 days of Summer", but I guess I must have donated it to Oxfa.

Mark G, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 08:25 (fourteen years ago)

I think I threw my Mr. Bungle CDs without burning them.

kkvgz, Wednesday, 17 August 2011 11:15 (fourteen years ago)

Las Toallitas (Chicago band, self-released, way OOP, only copy on GEMM was going for $700 some dollars, yeah right.) After several years I bought one on ebay for about 5 bucks, and then of course the first one turned up in the wrong case, so now I have two.

Hey T-Paw, mow my lawn! (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 17 August 2011 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

I know where all of mine are, but I keep remembering albums that I didn't get a chance to rip before they were put into storage and I'm really frustrated by how difficult it is for me to get to them.
