Aberfeldy -- anyone know anything?

New(? I think) Rough Trade band. I've heard "Love is an Arrow" (which I quite like) and one other mp3 that didn't excite me so much. Anyone else heard them? Thoughts/opinions?

saw them supporting the mountain goats, at nice'n'sleazy. nice.

they should play the winchester club.

the cd promo I got sent was good. I like them. folky pop. lyrics a bit trite but in a good way. for some reson it works. put on above mentioned show and enjoyed it wholeheartedly.

I'm trying to get my hopes up, as it's probably just a case of "Love is an Arrow" being a nearly perfect song, and the record ending up being boring to me. But who knows?

three months pass...
Anyone else heard the LP? I quite like it, actually. They have a way with a harmony and a goofy rhyme. "Love is an Arrow" and "Veg Restaurant" are the obvious standouts to me so far.

Yeah I rather like it too. It's not twee enough to annoy me, but it's still cute and fun.

a little bit of puke came up in my mouth when i heard this.

I bet it tasted like neopolitan ice cream.

I kind of like the album cover, even if it is a bit off:

they're rotten and this as i am pre-programmed to like this sort of thing.

they're great and this as i am not programmed and this as i am not a comput0r.

"Love is an Arrow" is a great song but I am not keen on the album. I think they'd have got away with it if I'd never seen them live - the charm of the recorded tracks just came over as a more amateur Deacon Blue in person.

And jeez, I know I'm no oil painting, but for fuck's sake, they really aren't making an effort at all...

reclusive hero (reclusive hero), Friday, 20 August 2004 07:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That's certainly true. They should just do the enigmatic/faceless bit for a time like Belle and Sebastian did. I think "Love is an Arrow" is the only truly good song on the album, but I enjoy it mostly throughout. Some of the rhymes and lyrics are so self-consciously bad/good.

I like Heliopolis By Night. Great, misleading album cover too.

dog latin (dog latin), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 08:16 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah the album cover is cool. i got it when it first came out, at the beginning of our summer, and 'summer's gone' seemed so wrong and weird. now summer is gone and it's all sad. i thrashed it too hard when i got and got fed up with it, but it definitely has some nice poppy tunes. i like the one about jennifer too.

That is pretty neat. It's a charming record.

Steve Go1dberg (Steve Schneeberg), Friday, 25 August 2006 05:51 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, their second album just seems to have kind snuck out this July. Didn't know a thing about it until just a minute ago.
