I've given up on this world.
Oh wait, maybe I can go see the Goats in PDX just days after.
OK, never mind. I'll allow the world to keep on keepin' on.

Still though, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

C'mon, man, you know it's all about John D., cause them Sun City Girls are nothin' but prog-punks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

tell j0hn to pull an axl

cinniblount (James Blount), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Tell John to pull Axl.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking of paying off the local mafia to ensure certain bands start and end at very specific times.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

for a sec there i thought ned posted exactly what i posted and we had some sorta cosmic xpost, like the dolphins were speaking thru us or something

"I DO NOT ACCEPT MY SLAVE NAME."

"Uh, dolphins? Sorry, we didn't realize."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Alternately, I could see the Sun City Girls the night before in PDX... and hopefully FINALLY get to meet certain ILMers here..(Jack?)

(Also, the Sun City Girls don't necessarily need to be hosted in Seattle that night, since they live here)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

DB, I think the sun city girls are playin PDX friday too, so you could always go down for that.

But I missed the last Seattle performance of Mr. D4rni3lle, and the time before that, and to the extent there were times before that that I missed without knowing it, I missed all those too.

So, while I have love for the Sun City Girls, this is a clear choice for me. I'll be at the Tractor on 5/22.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

oh woops, I see you already knew that.

Scott CE (Scott CE), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I should just move to Portland between 5/22 and 6/11... I'll now be going down there every weekend within four weeks. (week after for Ned fest/Ellen Allien, two weeks later for Thinking Fellers)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i must declare my interest as Official Tour Driver To Mr Darnielle, nonetheless my tip would be for tMG show.

putting on a gig like this is deceptively tough. we're rolling 26 artics, a sushi chef and 2 eyebrow specialists.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank John and Peter, their management, the crew, the crew's management and the crew management's crew.

v1nny miller, Thursday, 29 April 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I woulda thunk the Nedster woulda had more love for the SCG. :(

Buster (mokey), Thursday, 29 April 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

donut:

Easy easy solution. Go see the goats the previous day in Anacortes. The D.O.S. is a wonderful intimate venue run by very nice people. and only a 75 minute drive from seattle (compared with 3 hours to portland). And while you're there, you'll even get a chance to check out the best all night donut shop in the world.

Kevin Erickson, Thursday, 29 April 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

oooh! count me in on that! (maybe)

I woulda thunk the Nedster woulda had more love for the SCG. :(

Actually I do like them quite a bit, I was choosing to be silly.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 April 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Kevin, thank you, but this presents two problems..

a) I currently don't drive, and not sure if there are buses that go between Anacortes and Seattle

b) I will still be missing the Sun City Girls as they are only playing Portland on the 21st and Seattle the 22nd.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm basically doing the SCG in PDX on the 21st and Goats on the 22nd in Seattle thing. It's settled.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Even though I'm still trying to organize my mafia to make the set times for both bands that need be mutually exclusive and non overlapping, since one venue is mere walking distance from the other.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

this will be one of the momentous occasions wherein the SO goes to one show, while I go to another. See you at the Tractor, bitches

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Very excited to see SCG. I'm going to talk about them on the radio this weekend and play a few things(!) Will also reference Mike M's wonderful Seattle Weekly story, liberally.

Kate Silver (Kate Silver), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:26 (twenty-two years ago)

my SCG dilemma for May 21st is if i should go since it's my partner's birthday and she no like the SCG -- then again, besides the fact that that I love SCG, I feel like I should go and meet Alan Bishop in person after doing several interviews with them. I feel like I'm in some sort of The Flintstones plot where I need to coming up with a cunning plot.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Can you take the day off and do the celebration during the day?

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 19:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Or, maybe you can come up to Seattle the next day?
(Jesus, the aggregate of this dilemma has more potential for saucy misunderstandings than a Three's Company episode)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

there needs to be a sitcom about indie rockers. with the token noise kid, and the token riot girl type.

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:03 (twenty-two years ago)

man I think queequeg would appreciate a SCG performance even if she doesn't like them. Lots of hilarity ensues!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, which of these two shows will have more of the LADIES? *heh heh*

Larry, Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

xpost Ian and Jon would have to split the role in said sitcom, with one of them agreeing to play the last-season shark-jumping incarnation

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:09 (twenty-two years ago)

There's no reason why it couldn't be an indie Perfect Strangers.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

(i doubt their would be more than one season, but i think jon would deifnitely be the better choice. he is CREEPIER.)

Ian Johnson (orion), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

it'd be an indie Dark Shadows

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"i'll suck the heck out of yr neck"

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

This thread has taken strange turns.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"watch I'm going to post on the INTERNET that I sukked a girl's neck"

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

the twouble with taking Queeqeg to an SCG show is that one never know's what one is going to get. has anybody heard what they've been doing this tour? that might help me to convince my maste.r

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 29 April 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

No dancing hobos, no John Coltrane vinyl...just the boys on drums/bass/guitar going nuts onstage, at least in Louisville.

Ernest P. (ernestp), Friday, 30 April 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, look, I haven't heard Sun City Girls yet, but I'd go to see Mountain Goats just for fun. It's the big name acts I'm avoiding these days, as ticket prices seem to have ballooned overnight.
With "convenience" charges, seeing a bigger name act these days is $50 for one night of entertainment. I did it for Blur because my friends were going, and I did it for Lou Reed because, well, he's Lou Reed, but the show actually wasn't so great, and after that I was like "no way". $50 for one night of entertainment just seems like flushing money down the toilet, no matter who it is. I'd only pay $50 to see New Order. But I'm fine with going to see cheaper indie acts.

bimble (bimble), Friday, 30 April 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Tarheel in "cheap" SHOCK

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 30 April 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

It's shocking I'm not loaded with cash?

bimble (bimble), Friday, 30 April 2004 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a "Tarheel"? Please explain.

bimble (bimble), Friday, 30 April 2004 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

no, 'tis reference to the pronunciation of John Darnielle's name, nothing about you etc

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Friday, 30 April 2004 03:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I wonder where he is that John Darnielle. People have been posting about him, but he hasn't been around lately, that I know of.
