All released in 1977, recorded at the same studios with largely the same personnel. So who wins out, Iggy or Bowie?

I think I love the Iggy albums more, but Bowie's albums more influential bla bla bla...

Iggy is great, but there's just so much more going on in the Bowie albums.

I like "Lust for Life" better than the other three. "Low" and "The Idiot" tie for me, if only because the instrumentals on "Low" aren't nearly as good as the songs. "Heroes" is strong and abrasive, but again, the instrumentals ... "Lust for Life" is great from start to finish, and even Carnival Cruises/Jet/Trainspotting haven't made me sick of the title track. Best album cover, too.

I love ambient.
Therefore I pick Bowie.

Lust for Life is my favorite out of those records, I like all of those songs. The Idiot has a drugged out on downers vibe that is good, but the tunes don't catch me as much and some of it drags on like the last song.

Some of the songs on first side of Low could use a bridge or an ending, every tune seems to just fade out after the second chorus. I always keep thinking, "Is that it?" The instrumentals are great and 'Sound and Vision' is one of Bowie's best songs. Heroes is great all the way through, it is as probably as good as Lust for Life, I just haven't heard it as much.

lust for life > low > heroes > the idiot

Eow. That is super-tough as they are both among my all-time faves.

Apaprently Ian Curtis killed himself to "The Idiot," if that helps anyone's voting.

I'm not picking this. They're all great and essential.

"Apaprently Ian Curtis killed himself to "The Idiot," if that helps anyone's voting."

Yes, but according to Deborah Curtis's book, when he told her about his infidelity, she smashed his copy of "Low" over his head! So it's a draw.

I thought it was MetallicKO that he killed himself to

i've never heard that particular story

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 30 April 2004 07:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Nope, it was definitely "The Idiot".

I like misreading the thread title's mispelling as "He-Oreos"

eight months pass...
Lust for Life has to be in my top 10 albums of all time - at least, its in the top 4 or 5 most emotionally resonant albums for me. im not exactly sure why, but all the songs are so perfect. it has all the eerie, whooshing sounds of all the berlin-77/78 albums, but with much more warmth and humanity than The Idiot or even Low, which is also a favorite album of mine.

LfL>low>heroes=idiot, so by the slimmest of margins, iggy over david.
