MIKE JONES

get past the minks and the gaudily accessorized entry level luxury cars and the icy grill (number one in my grill countdown!) and he's the most loveable rapper in houston, the sloppy punchline rapper that's also every other punchline rapper's sloppy punchline. great gimmick: say your name in every fucking line, announce the impending release of your next album in every other line. "it's mike jones? who? mike jones / the album who is mike jones comin soon" and watts is always sure to chop that last line a couple times, make sure everyone hears it, and all of your houston rapper friends are sure to use that "have your girl coming sooner than mike jones" line and variations more times than paul wall says he can still catch boppas. (his official website url is whomikejones.com!) and he's still the most dependable guy swishahouse's got, that deep, mushy flow always primed for a sixteen on whatever beat watts needs on the disc, and still ready to parallel (he's a great mimic, too-- check the yungstar impression on from da city, just what was playing while i'm writing this but there are plenty of other good examples) with cham, paul wall, slim thug or his patna magno. he's fucking awesome.

search:
mike jones and magno ft. chalie boy - from da city
day 2 day grindin
still tippin
paul wall ft. mike jones - they don't know
mike jones and paul wall - megamix flow (after da kappa 2k4)

if you've got kazaa or something like that just search for mike jones and you'll probably get a giant list of mike jones flows on every hot beat of the last five years. you just need to pick the beats you like.

I consider Richard Stilgoe my greatest influence.

I consider Michael Rodd your greatest influence.

HOLLA AT MIKE JONES!!! 281-330-8004

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Tuesday, 27 July 2004 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Still tippin is BLOOD HOTT! DLK is this still your email addy? I need 2 hit you up for something.

LC, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i can only see dots for the email address. do [email protected]

still tippin was the last song cham and mike jones were on together before the beef started! now cham's only on the original rap-a-lot compilation version and gone from the swishahouse version that had a video made for it.

i was too enthusiastic about him when i made the post. he's clever and funny and i'm sort of glad he's getting some shine now but i've sort of jumped on the new backlash bandwagon for some reason.

IIIIIIII, Tuesday, 27 July 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

i called the number a bunch of times and you only get to listen to a long voice mail message about his album and upcoming shows and then he says to leave a message and he'll call you but after the beep the phone company voice says the subscriber is not whatever to recieve messages.

anybody heard the album? i love the single. and by the way, if thats the single, whats the screwed/chopped version gonna sound like? i know the album comes with a S/C disc...

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 27 January 2005 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, how old WAS this single?

There's a remix of the single w/ 50 Cent making the rounds up my way (CT) that sounded like a S/C version of "Still Tippin'" at first (if that's possible). (That's what you're hinting @, right, PS?) Maybe they just drank a lot (a LOT) of Robitussin (Nyquil?) before hitting the studio.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 27 January 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

wow - is the video on mtv for a really old song? i dont think i had heard it until i saw the video earlier this week. then i saw that the album came out...

no - theres a bonus disc on the album that has the screwed/chopped v. of the new album (which is an awesome incentive for me to buy it, as long as the album is about as good as the one song ive heard...).

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 27 January 2005 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

My collaboration with 10 Bob Note has been withdrawn from circulation. It's tender, but not legally so.

Croydon Council have written to me about "Still Tippin'"; without a licence I cannot continue to dispose of garden refuse in this way. I may have to reconsider my position.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

What's the name of the song that goes,

"Dick Dont' Fail me Now / I gotta turn shorty out /And I'm the only one she wants *MIKE JONES*"?

poortheatre (poortheatre), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

It might be You're Not Actually Going To Put That Tent Up In Here, Are You? but I don't recognise any of the words.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

that's the mike jones remix of "pussy" by missy elliott

scg, Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa - it turns out the album i saw came out in 2003. nevermind. i wonder why i saw it so much on mtv last week. maybe it was mtvj, and it was just on a 12 hour loop.

peter smith (plsmith), Thursday, 27 January 2005 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

that video's been on Uncut for months and months, but it's just now starting to get played on MTV and BET daytime shows (i.e. only since Swishahouse got a major label deal).

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 27 January 2005 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

two years pass...

the single i heard from the new album was pretty bad (he obv needs michael watts' help in some form) but the first album is still really great. maybe the best album of the houston 2005 debuts... i think hes one of the most underrated rappers of this decade.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 6 September 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

i love screw dat

and what, Thursday, 6 September 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

which single did you hear

deej, Thursday, 6 September 2007 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

i dont know the name of it. but it had singing on the chorus. i was pretty dissapointed. i love mike jones. hes an easy target (like ying yang) but he makes better songs and more importantly, albums, than most other 'big name' rappers.

titchyschneiderMk2, Thursday, 6 September 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

his bigger single from the new one was 'my 6-4'

'mr. jones' was pretty good though too

deej, Thursday, 6 September 2007 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

six years pass...

"My 64" is awesome, never thought I'd say it but I may prefer it to "Still Tippin'"

Bun verse is A+

dude is still the one Houston rapper of the Paul Wall/Slim Thug/Cham whose singles I have on my iTunes heh. I might've been OK with (former) Thugga the (former) Boss if The Neptunes hadn't put in some of their worst work on his debut though

nova, Thursday, 4 September 2014 13:33 (eleven years ago)

"Like a Boss" and "I Ain't Heard of That" are dope (although I prefer the original version of the latter) but the Mr. Lee tracks are completely incredible

The Reverend, Thursday, 4 September 2014 19:41 (eleven years ago)

idk they're really drab imo and Samberg&co. lowkey ethered "Like a Boss" imo

Srsly tho I'm lookin for a DIIIIME, that's top of the line lmao I forgot all about this one and it's so sick

nova, Thursday, 11 September 2014 05:17 (eleven years ago)

holy shit double-posted again lol it's nova (WHO) i'm faded (WHO)

nova, Thursday, 11 September 2014 05:18 (eleven years ago)

double-posted a word I mean. Goddammit I quit lol
