has anyone heard of a band called 8mm? theyve been playing them a lot on kcrw in la but i havent heard them played anywhere else. their website says they're mananaged by garbage's manager and the singer reminds me of shirley only not as pissed off - but just as *hot*. they stream all thier songs for free on thier site too - none of that snippet crap. i think theyre going to be huge. if you like stuff like portishead, fiona, garbage, mazzy star, the cure & nick cave, check em - www.8mmaudio.com

Not as bad as I would expect from messageboard spam.

Based on the opening tracks - yeah, Beth Gibbons vocals, less trip-hoppy music.

She looks gobsmackingly fantastic. Less trip-hoppy than Portishead but have their own sound.

I dunno, I'm two-for-three in band appreciation there. (Fiona Apple? Uh.)

Fiona Apple & Portishead were a huge huge huge part of my adolescence. And I have no issues with them now... Still listen to them quite a bit.

i'm more with jody beth here. add in a dash of beck, a bit of lounge, and some neo-swing.

OTM. The only movie I've ever seen that I seriously thought about asking the theater for my money back.

I’m the manager of 8mm and this was just brought to my attention. It looks like someone was a little misdirected in their enthusiasm when they started this thread. It did not come from our internal camp (that we know of anyway). As it is the first time this sort of thing has happened, I hope to nip it at the bud as of now.

We appreciate the intent, but prefer our love in a more open, straight-from-the-hip fashion. I’ve been openly posting as myself on a few boards and encourage fans (and 8mm support team members) to do the same if they want to show support on blogs and forums. There’s no need to be gimmicky.

For the record, this is a new band (not an old movie) that I describe as a hooky, sexy trip-hop hybrid of their own making.
