Morrissey in the NY Dolls fan club, Jeffrey Lee Pierce president of the Blondie fan club....how bout you?

The only one I was in was Angels of the Seventh Dawn - the Danzig fanclub. My mom sent them $20 and they sent me a cool ID card, lots of glossy photos and stickers, a folder, autographs, and a presskit. I still have most of that stuff - it really made my day back then. Never got a follow up package though...

Suede since 1995, shortly after I started the mailing list. Ride's some years before that.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

fanclubs worth being in for getting quality booty: saint etienne, placebo, r.e.m. (in the old days)

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:03 (twenty-two years ago)

alas i have been in none

fanclubs worth being in for getting quality booty

Carefully phrased.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

in that case i should have added 'belle and sebastian'

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Suede have played several fan club only gigs over the years. Not like that did us North Americans any good, but still.
I haven't been in a fan club either. Is it too late to start now?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:06 (twenty-two years ago)

get in on the ground floor. find a new band and stick with em

the 'surface' 'noise' (electricsound), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Does being on Fallnet count?

Sasha (sgh), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

man or astroman

even had the t-shirt and member card :-)

william (william), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:22 (twenty-two years ago)

In recent years, my "pick a new band and stick with them" approach has been to see more local bands (it helps that the Toronto scene has been fairly good lately).
I think that's the fanclub equivalent for people over 25.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in the Misfits Fiend Club for like a year but then I didn't renew my membership. I got 2 stickers, a membership card, and the monthly "Bleeder's Digest", which was marginally entertaining. This was all like 2 years ago, so I can assume it used to be cooler (a friend once gave me a totally awesome Fiend Club circular pin of very high quality - it was attachable like a cuff link, not like a normal cheap 1" pin - but this was not obtained by being in the Fiend Club in 2002).

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Thursday, 13 May 2004 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

St. Etienne seconded...free CDs, autographed photo etc. I'm considering rejoining.

Jez (Jez), Thursday, 13 May 2004 06:06 (twenty-two years ago)

St Et, for the free CD's worth having...

I once wrote for some info on the Freshies, and they wrote back saying I was now member 1547 in the fan club.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 13 May 2004 07:40 (twenty-two years ago)

madness MIS member .. lost my id card so can recall my number . received all sorts of good stuff (pre-internet real stuff - like flexi discs/magazines/badges etc etc). well worth my pocket money ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I nearly joined the Blur fanclub but didn't. I don't think I've actually been in any.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in two of them, Uncle Tupelo and Man-or-Astroman. I think I signed up for them at their shows - I went to see them both a lot.

Krim (louizah), Thursday, 13 May 2004 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth count? I received a huge pkg. ov stuff years ago, then threw it all out. Gave me the creeps.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm in the Strokes fan club.

FANBOYS

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Interesting that two of you have been in the Man or Astromna fan club. Great band, of course, but what's the appeal of their fan club over, say, The Supersuckers fan club or the WuTang fan club?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I was on Ride's mailing list and part of the 'Ride Network' (a fanzine-based bootleg-swapping thing).

Jamie Fake (the pirate king), Thursday, 13 May 2004 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i was in the K.I.S.S. Army..even spelled the logo out with a LiteBrite so i could think of how sinister they were as i layed in bed..i remember getting a belt buckle from them at some point.
Ralph Records treats their fans really well..

thomas de'aguirre (biteylove), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Alice Cooper, back in the day, when the original band was doing it. One of the pieces of 'quality booty' was a fan that said 'I'm an Alice Cooper Fan' on it. Get it? Also there was this great poster. I think my Mom threw it away.......

John Bullabaugh (John Bullabaugh), Thursday, 13 May 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in the del Amitri fanclub and the Armoury Show fanclub, aged 16. *bemoans advanced years*

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep.
Kiss Army and Club Dev-o

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in the King Crimson club-dingus when they were making available all of these unreleased recordings and live shows. I wonder if I could do pretty well ebay-ing some of those cds now.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 13 May 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Card Carrying Member....

I wish I'd been in the XTC fan club - I believe they had a couple of members-only albums!

nothing really other than it was cheap to join and i got a t-shirt.

william (william), Friday, 14 May 2004 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i must also admit that i seriously thought of getting a rocket from the crypt tattoo,as they apparently let anyone with one in free to their gigs. db or ned can probably vouch if this were true.

william (william), Friday, 14 May 2004 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

does jaz coleman's "o.d.i.c." count?

The band said they would always do their best to ensure this was the case, but that they couldn't make every promoter or club owner agree to it. Fair enough.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah!
