Boards of Canada - 106 promo

got this from s@sk, the .nfo file says:

Radio only promo from Boards of Canada's yet to be titled release due out later this year

anyone know if this on the level? It certainly sounds like them but there seems to be a lot of fake stuff of there's flying about...

good lord Boards of Canada are overrated

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Thursday, 13 May 2004 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe so, but I quite like them

P P, Thursday, 13 May 2004 08:47 (twenty-two years ago)

best fake BoC track = "litter duty" cos I wrote it. fuck knows why people think it's by them.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 13 May 2004 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought that when fakes appeared it was usually because they were deliberately wrongly titled by the artist themselves, in the hope of appealing to listeners of the more famous artist. So someone else started the confusion with yours, dog latin?

Ha ha classic I just found your track in someone's "rare" folder.

I guess BoC's tunes are quite easy to fake.. what does that say about the quality of their music? hmmm I don't know.

P P, Thursday, 13 May 2004 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

no i didn't rename anything. found out about this on the old joyrex message board when someone said it was one of his favourite BoC tracks or something :-) This was well before I'd started sharing files. I now keep a cheeky copy of Litter Duty by BoC on my HD anyway as it can't hurt the promotion.

You should stick something in the Notes field of the ID3 tags to explain that it's really your track, that you didn't start the fire, and that you're really great, or something.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

it's an idea really innit. never thought of that.

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

there's another promo called 'Oranges And Flowers' out there

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:12 (twenty-two years ago)

also all three volumes of 'A Few Old Tunes' as it's been dubbed (collection of demos leaked by a friend of the duo apparently) - i really like 'Spectrum' tho it's nothing special or owt

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:13 (twenty-two years ago)

3 volumes? i thought there was only 2.
just downloading 'litter duty'!

zappi (joni), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it is only two, sorry

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"Oranges & Flowers" is short (2 and a bit mins) and has a vocal samplethat goes "gun metal grey" = anti-war track?

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

hey what are those BoC "early works" like??

are they radiophonic analog synth madness (i hope) or is it sort of crunchy (yawn) hiphop like the skam tracks?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:26 (twenty-two years ago)

and has a vocal samplethat goes "gun metal grey"

that sounds familiar.. i wonder if it's minimum chips

some crunchy hiphop, some 70s childrens tv analog synth action, lots of nice short fuzzy tracks, and a rather bizarre track that uses a slowed down acapella of colonel abrams 'trapped'!

zappi (joni), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

is that the hell interface track that appeared on one of the mask comps, or an earlier version of same?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 13 May 2004 09:54 (twenty-two years ago)

different track, only similarity is the colonel

zappi (joni), Thursday, 13 May 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yeh it's an alternate downtempo version, the HI version is better

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 13 May 2004 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i got the midas touch, everything i touch it turns to gold

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

What happens when you touch gold? < / Crow T. Robot >

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

hah. it's a track by midnight star called midas touch that BoC remade as a hell interface track. i was just singing.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

that midas touch track is amazing. probably the best thing on those early mixtapes.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 13 May 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, i haven't heard it in a while and i really need to hear it RIGHT NOW.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 May 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)
