i've just seen pictures of the tyde and d.r. hanging out. does this mean the end of ilx? AS WE KNOW IT?

doomie x, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, where did you see those pics?!?!?!?!!?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ann emailed them to me. she's a big grime fan. she's telling me the new wiley roxxx.

doom e, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

grime fan!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

it really is a weird picture.

doom e, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

you mean she's a grimer?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

she's my friend so don't be unnecessarily mean. she's a cute girl!

i first heard the streets because she was big upping them to me and dizzee rascal.

doom e, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Dizzee Rascal heard about the streets from her?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

And how do The Tyde fit into all this?

And who are The Tyde?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

an LA indie band.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:21 (twenty-two years ago)

...that is popular in the UK because of John Peel.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I think listening to them makes you white (also perhaps stain free.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Are they something to do with the Blood Brothers?

Who is John Peel?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:22 (twenty-two years ago)

anyhoo -- just wanted to share that weirdness...!

doom e, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

wait...we're not done.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

What about the end of ILX?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Does it have anything to do with John Peel?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

don't worry i'll check on the 'ole let's be clever ham-fisted ilx routine' tomorrow.

doom e, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

FYI: the tyde has some non-"white" people in the band (including one named in this thread).

they have nothing to do with Blood Brothers, more Beachwood Sparks/further/Aron's records circa 1993/KXLU circa 1995.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

"FYI: the tyde has some non-"white" people in the band (including one named in this thread)."

I knew I should have said that they keep colors from fading. Live and learn.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

You should post these picture, doom e. I can host them for you if you like.

Or...you can draw an approximation of them in MS Paint. What are they doing in these pictures? Drinking beer? Throwing hand shapes?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Shadow puppets?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Dizzee is on MATADOR RECORDS, perhaps you've heard of them? (PS: did you ever hear THE FUNKY PRECADENT way back when?)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Fog on the Tyde.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I know Matador. I have a 3cd 10th anniversary Matador box set.

Who are THE FUNKY PRECADENT?

Adam

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just listening to The Tyde the other day. That one record I have by them is lovely. Doomie, was it you who brought them up in regards to Felt. Cuz they have one song that is such a Felt tribute its scary. But I like it!

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The undie hip hop comp, gygax!? Yeah, I've heard it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just about to say that I'm sure DR has hung out with a lot of faggy indie bands in the past. And yet ILX chugs ever onward.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

its me, scott. i love the tyde. i think i know which song you are talking about .. ha ha -- darren the singer admits that it is his tribute to felt!!!

in related tyde news of no use but myself -- in this week's issue of the nme -- rough trade RAN my ENTIRE REVIEW of mystic chords of memory AS THEIR ADVERTISMENT. has this happened before?

doomie-x, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ILX chugs ever onward.

What the fuck is holding it together, elastic bands and spittle?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

it can't be the 'humour'...

doomie x, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

no

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the trolls

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

and indie guilt

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:43 (twenty-two years ago)

its the people who know sort of famous people

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

it's gonna be big, baby...i mean huge

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:47 (twenty-two years ago)

actually my new music job is something big. and huge. so i am already there. and you?

doomie x, Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, my allergies are acting up again, but can't complain.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

The good old days, those different tymes:

At a show at the Jabberjaw in ~1993*, one future member of the Tyde tried to drag me along to a nearby Edwyn Collins gig.

*I'm trying to remember who this was, I think it was something as completely unrelated as Rodan/Clikitat Ikatowa or something.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Clikitata Ikatowa! Another hardcore band that we did not have time to talk about with Gareth.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, what, gareth, hardcore?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, me and gygax! cornered Gareth in an SF bar and spoke to him of that hardcore.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

has the whole world gone topsy turvy?!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Which I believe may have resulted in this thread.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

like i said on the other thread... he seemed only interested in bay area hardcore. i mentioned on the other thread that san diego is the center of my 90s hardcore universe.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth is a really big Antioch Arrow fan now!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally didn't realize that thread was started by Gareth.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

that is, i think he was only interested in bay area hc...

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

(ie, it was hard to tell, @d@ml was basically bullying him.)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

(...into screamo submission)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I have been known to bully.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha when was this?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

And were the teachers from Riordan involved?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

You were sitting right there!

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahaha! The teachers from Riordan asked gygax about Truman's Water. Puzzled looks all around.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I totally forgot about that.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Once they found out I wasn't, you know, "American", they started leaning in towards me and speaking really slowly. And swearing a lot.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"THE AROMA OF GINA ARNOLD" &c. &c.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The one guy who was closest to me was completely thrashed. The other two guys almost seemed embarrassed for him.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

And they all wore black shirts.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The ladiez like the black shirts, @d@m.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Obviously, that's why those guys were sitting with us.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, one of my three shirts is a black shirt.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

They're flexible, dude. Don't denigrate it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 May 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)
