Korn to possibly release first good song ever shockah.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, two things:

"After the show, I go back to meet Chris Rock and it wound up being Chris Rock, Rick Rubin, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and me," Jon remembered. If that's not the oddest combination since Tony Randall moved in with Jack Klugman [on TV], what is?

"Rick was like, 'Your music is what hip-hop used to be,' " Jon continued. "I was like, 'Wow, this is Rick Rubin telling me he's a fan of mine and my sh-- is hip-hop.'

First -- I never EVER thought I'd see a Tony Randall/Jack Klugman reference in any recent music story.

Second -- Li'l Jon needs someone to tell him his shit is hip-hop?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought for a moment this said "Lil Jon to work with TRON."
Now that would be cool.

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Li'l Jon to work with TOMBOT

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

'Your music is what hip-hop used to be,' " Jon continued. "I was like, 'Wow, this is Rick Rubin telling me he's a fan of mine and my sh-- is hip-hop.

zebedee (zebedee), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

not surpised, they both suck. OK Usher's yea kicks ass

lukey (Lukey G), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I was hoping the Odd Couple reference was L'il Jon's, dammit.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 14 May 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

If all the nu-metal bands converted to "Crunk-rock", it might be something I would actually listen to!
It certainly makes me interested in hearing a Korn song for the first time ever.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I was hoping the Odd Couple reference was L'il Jon's, dammit.

I know! For a second I'm all 'goddamn!'

It certainly makes me interested in hearing a Korn song for the first time ever.

Understood.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Anyone remember the korn song w/Q-Tip? I am going to have to pull that out to remember how bad it was.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, there is no doubt in my mind the Korn song will be godawful. And I like Lil Jon.

David Allen (David Allen), Friday, 14 May 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd really like to know who's supposed to be Felix Unger in that analogy.

this love has taken its toll

Al (sitcom), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(I am SO excited about the prospect of that remix)

Al (sitcom), Friday, 14 May 2004 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Kayne is being seen w/Maroon 5 now? Christ, this reminds me of all the shitty nu-grunge bands Ludacris name checke din Rolling Stone.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Friday, 14 May 2004 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

wh-wh-whoa! You all missed the most obv. dope collabo in that story - Lil Jon + Timbaland!

Also, I believe D Stelfox reportz that TOK is doing a track w/ Lil Jon for their upcoming album.

djdee2005, Saturday, 15 May 2004 03:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"I like "Scar Tissue," by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Blurry," by Puddle of Mudd -- that's, like, my number one -- and "My Sacrifice," by Creed. And that "Kryptonite" song, by 3 Doors Down." - Luda

hahahahaha

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 15 May 2004 03:11 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah thats it. i mean. i meeeaaan. wtf? etc.

also is andre going to do a verse on the next coldplay album ala "radio song"?

christhamrin (christhamrin), Saturday, 15 May 2004 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

y'know, I was thinking about it today, and I couldn't think of a single rock band/genre that a famous rapper could publically enjoy and endorse that wouldn't be met with some kind of derision from the ILM peanut gallery. I mean, really, let's face it, you guys are going to hate on any kind of cross pollination at all.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:24 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I was gonna say I don't know what bands y'all expect Luda to be praising when he's feeling egalitarian...Franz Ferdinand? haha.

djdee2005, Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:28 (twenty-two years ago)

he should like Black Sabbath or something. or Yes. at least El-P likes Yes. You can't know him for that.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean its kind of bullshit to say ilm would knock a rapper for like ANY band. look at what luda namechecked. thats the fucking dregs. he didn't even pick some of the better songs played on that radio format.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG BEST EVARRRR

NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS REMIND YOU THAT ZERO IS ALSO A NUMBER (ex machina), Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Luda at least picked the best singles by each of those bands.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

he didn't even pick some of the better songs played on that radio format.

Like the maroon 5?

djdee2005, Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. like maroon 5. (actually i was thinking more of the 'hard rock' x-type stations which is where i would hear songs of this nature)

christhamrin (christhamrin), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i concede i was bullshitting a little, christhamrin, but honestly, i couldn't think of any scenarios where rap-guy-liking-rock-guy wouldn't invite ridicule. if you can provide any, real or hypothetical, I'd love to hear it.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:15 (twenty-two years ago)

jay-z liking rick rubin!

nevermind

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i think big boi still likes andre maybe

cinniblount (James Blount), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Stomach to work with Vomit

scottontharox (scottkundla), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:49 (twenty-two years ago)

More importantly, check this out:

Basement Jatt - Southern Hospitality (Desi Ludacris remix)

Scroll down the page to post at 11:32 on 11/5/2004 and download the track.. Discuss amongst yourself.

scottontharox (scottkundla), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm scared...and excited.

djdee2005, Saturday, 15 May 2004 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i couldn't think of any scenarios where rap-guy-liking-rock-guy wouldn't invite ridicule.

Please note that scenarios consisting of "Hey! I'm defining pop culture and my backing tracks are so goddamn of the zeitgeist that it's great to know I'm defining the future as well as the present! Now let me tell you praiseworthy things about this nth-generation Nirvana rip-off that I could wipe my ass with" are a bit disappointing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 May 2004 08:23 (twenty-two years ago)

rap guys in telling (general audience) interviewers what they think they want to hear shocker!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 May 2004 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"my favorite rock songs are all those ones i heard them perform when i was backstage at the vma's last year."

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 May 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

if anything rap dudes got a bigger complex than indie kids about being "pigeonholed".

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 15 May 2004 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought maybe Korn had got jobs at Little Johns, the restaurant chain. I wanted to know if they would be waiters or cooks...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Saturday, 15 May 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

strongo OTM

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

>i couldn't think of any scenarios where rap-guy-liking-rock-guy wouldn't invite ridicule.

That's because rock is a mass of lukewarm cliches, and hip-hop is all wild bursts of genre-busting originality, all the time. Didn't you read the ILM FAQ?

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I do think this is a good idea, though. Get Lil Jon and Korn in the studio, lock the doors and windows, pump in the gas...

Phil Freeman (Phil Freeman), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Get Lil Jon and Korn in the studio, lock the doors and windows, pump in the gas... "

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

is that Deanna Troi again?

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

hardly.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

please, let me have my fun.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, the image is coming up broken for me so I'm just trying to guess what it is!

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

oh it works for me, weird. it's COLONEL SANDERS!

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

It'd have been funnier if it'd have been a picture of a wrestler. Didn't you read the ILM FAQ?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:39 (twenty-two years ago)

frequently antagonistic quips

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 15 May 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i liked korn's song with q-tip, at least i did, until korn started revving up their guitars and being vocal. it was good until that part.
