RFI: Recent Popular Alt-Rock Song

So this has been bothering me all day.

There's a really popular alt-rock song from the last couple of years -- as in, I've heard it on the radio at least a dozen or more times -- that to me sounds like Nirvana covering "Summer Nights" from the Grease soundtrack (it's the same I-IV-V-IV progression).

I thought it was the Vines, but then I listened to all of their singles on the iTunes store this morning and didn't recognize any of them as the song I'm thinking of. Is it possible it's not the Vines?

This'd be a whole lot easier, I realize, if I actually paid attention to lyrics ever.

Also, the big line of the chorus sounds like it's just two notes, in a descending major triad. The chorus is loud.

You're very welcome, I've only heard this song once and tried to forget it immediately but when you said "Nirvana covering 'Summer Nights'", I thought "Oh that's that piece of radio crap"... haha.

Let me emphasize, I don't actually like this song. Although I am pretty impressed with how shamelessly they rip off both Nirvana and "Summer Nights"!
