claro intelecto: "neurofibro" cd

this is super good. i know i called intelecto overrated on another ai-related thread but this is really, really good.

easily as good as any drexciya album except the quest. easily as good as anything coming out of the clone or planet e camps. so much better than the rest of the ai roster.

i'd really say it's what i wanted out of the ultimately disappointing late drexciya output. it's builds on intelecto's strengths, throwing in some vibes from the other people place and the transllusion album and expands his palette to include more heavy 4/4 stomp and acid house.

other reference points: donnacha costello, gemini, baby ford - but with a heavy layer of electro production over it.

anyway everyone go geddit.

the tracks to get over p2p if you're not convinced are "chicago", "nobody", "tria", "back" and "baudrillard's supper" (horrible title, i know!!)

and if you haven't already please get "the opening of the cerebral gate"

(prettiest cover ever)

Haven't heard it but I wanted to after reading Mark R's Pitchfork review.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 16 May 2004 02:00 (twenty-two years ago)

A pitchfork review convinced you? Scary...

I've been driving around listening to Neurofibro and at this point I really can't endorse it too strongly. Blame the excellent Peace of Mind EP, it achieves what Neurofibro attempts in a third of the time.

But maybe I'm wrong, and need a few more spins to figure it out.

jubal harshaw (jube), Sunday, 16 May 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

looking for it, without much success.

"so much better than the rest of the ai roster"

indeed. that comp sucked. there are def good trax on this release.

Exactly what I thought! :) I dunno, I'll have to give it some more spins too, probably at dusk or so, because after 4 tracks or so it really starts to bore me.

i slept on this too and got the excellent FZV - precedent LP instead. i already had the two claro 12"s and agree with jubal and omar's comments about this album in relation to 'peace of mind'.

also, vahid, have you been following the donnacha costello color series stuff on minimise? i have two or three of them and i like them all, blue side B probably being my favorite yet.

jason m (jason m), Sunday, 16 May 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

so far i have enjoyed everything i have heard by donnacha costello, which is pretty amazing in itself. Just about everything I have is ambient though.

hector (hector), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

yes. the b-side of "blue" is very moody! i think i like the a-side of "green", probably because it's a very obvious homage to maurizio's "lyot" remix. "rubine red" is cool, too because it's a bit lighter than the others. i still need to hear "pistachio".

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 16 May 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

as far as "peace of mind" v. "neurofibro" goes i'll admit that i'm sick in bed with a flu so i have a very long attention span right now.

i think a big difference is that on "neurofibro" he's emphasizing the house/techno side of his music as opposed to electro. it's less hectic, and just ... dancier, i guess. there's that heavy layer of bass and thump that makes me think "mmm sounds like playhouse" instead of "yuk sounds like boomkat.com".

Ha ha I love the last bit of that post Vahid.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 14 June 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

also are the sets archived?? and is there any way to search the site??

Dear Play De Record, I've never liked anything about you, but your decision to sell the Neurofibro 2XLP (new copy) for $5 is well appreciated. This is great, kind of where were you when I was 16 and listened to just this kind of music. Very nice.

Hot day here and I'm sitting in the shade listening to Reform Club and really feeling it. Those airy, shimmery synths wafting across the top of that dark, steamy bass is having an oddly cooling effect on me.
