I wanted to sound like Daydream Nation / Dirty era Sonic Youth and the Descendents. Ha ha ha!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:34 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 13 I tried to get my band to cover the Replacements. They didn't go for it.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:40 (twenty-two years ago)

How old is Alex in NYC?

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:41 (twenty-two years ago)

when I was 13 I covered Steely Dan and was promptly nicknamed "the Nightfly".

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:44 (twenty-two years ago)

buzzsaw pop, like ratcat or the hummingbirds

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

If I had to pick one band I wanted to sound like back then it was probably Guided by Voices.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i actually had no designs on being a rock musician at the age of 13. that came much later.

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

so then what did you want to be when you were 13?

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:52 (twenty-two years ago)

something lame like a doctor or a vet

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Monday, 17 May 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

that's what my 13 year old cousin wants to be, a vet.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 17 May 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Top Buzz

don (don), Monday, 17 May 2004 07:11 (twenty-two years ago)

808 State / Prodigy / Happy Mondays

stevem (blueski), Monday, 17 May 2004 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow you guys were pretty cool when you were 13.

When I was 13, I really wanted to be in a ska band. I was obsessed with the Specials, Selector, etc.

Debito (Debito), Monday, 17 May 2004 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

There were already like 10 ska bands in my local scene back then, so I was like, fuck that. I can understand, though. Could be a lot worse. I knew a kid who played guitar and really dug the Spin Doctors......

AaronHz (AaronHz), Monday, 17 May 2004 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh - I vaguely recall starting a "band" with a friend using tape recorder and a cheap keyboard. We wanted to sound like Cypress Hill vs the Prodigy.

I think we were called something like Electric Polo and ended up doing very contrived raps based on recent pop hits but with the lyrics changed so they were about psychedelic sweets.

dog latin (dog latin), Monday, 17 May 2004 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

When I'd just turned 13 (1976): probably Bowie / Bolan / Thin Lizzy - but not really that interested in music to be honest.

By the time I was approaching 14 (1977): THE DAMNED!

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Monday, 17 May 2004 09:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Red Hot Chili Peppers :(

(AT LEAST I ADMIT IT)

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Monday, 17 May 2004 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I was 13 in 1983 and my favorite bands were Led Zeppelin, Rush and The Police.

earlnash, Monday, 17 May 2004 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably something like Matthew Sweet

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Jay Z, DMX, whatever rap was popular at the time.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 17 May 2004 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll let you know when i get there.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(shit, cinniblount beat me to the punch).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was Aja's age, I started inventing emo.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

so do i have to email you or WHAT?

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

In 1975, I probably wanted to make the kind of SONGS I liked (Kinks, Beatles, Bowie), except with the kind of SOUND I liked (Kiss, Sweet, BTO). Then I heard Cheap Trick.

briania (briania), Monday, 17 May 2004 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, probably Killing Joke as well.

It was 1982 though.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 17 May 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I recorded noise on my fourtrack but I was crap at programming the drum machine.. I wanted to make folk but I couldn't sing. When I was drunk I did Sebadoh covers. I wasn't a good kid.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 17 May 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Probably something like White Zombie.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 17 May 2004 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was 13 I was preoccupied with two different 17-minute songs (Donna Summer's "Macarthur Park Suite"; Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida") and had mad dreams of combining them (despite absolutely no musical talent whatsoever.) And within five years, I'd heard "Sister Ray" and had ANOTHER 17-minute epic to obsess over!

Now that I've successfully obscured my present age...
