you'll be able to watch the webcast here:

http://www.upenn.edu/commencement/webcast.html

even if i wasnt burned out from working alumni weekend, i am thankful that i had things to do at work today...

i did keep an eye out on the parking lot next to my office, since my building is located right next to the president's house. i wondered if bono and judy [rodin, as in penn's prez] would hang out in the backyard or something.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

one more thing: i did hear from a few people that his speech was really good.

ps: i cant believe there's a thread on ilm about my place of employment.

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Bono's at that rare peak of annoyance where I don't see how I could hate him any more than I already do. Even if he assaulted every one of my friends with a cattle prod. You can only send a guy to the chair once, and I already want to see this potato tossed the deep fryer.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually kinda like Bono.

nickalicious is just high enough that he's willing to really open up (nickalicio, Monday, 17 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If he died tomorrow, my posts on ILX that day would be the epitome of bad taste.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

no, really, this is it: max roach, the drummer, received an honorary doctorate as well. so did lee friedlander. [he is a big influence on my own work.]

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

If I ever get to remake The Omega Code Bono is SO playing the Michael York role (and I thought that before reading the part of American Psycho where Bono announces he's Satan).

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm just impressed that they were able to find a cap that would fit over his huge head!

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

...what i want to know is...

WHAT ABOUT PETER YORK?!?!?!

deanomgwtf!!!p%3Fmsgid%3D4581997 (deangulberry), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I do like Bono I'll admit there I said it.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 17 May 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, I was already depressed but this is rediculous. I agree with Anthony Miccio that he is at a peak of annoyance, but most of the time I can forget he exists. Then you see his face...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Monday, 17 May 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

they should give the edge a phd also

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

BONO UR SPECH WAS GRAET WHERE CAN I GET TRNASSCARIPTS OF IT SEND IT TO ME AT 3928 ROSE DR FAIRBANKS ALASKA THX

JOSHUA TRE (Gear!), Monday, 17 May 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not totally sure he's at his PEAK of annoyance, though the omnipresent sunglasses at formal events may make this current period qualify. There is not a situation he could be in, not a person who he could meet, that would make him take off those goddamn glasses.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 17 May 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't hate Bono. I just occasionally shake my head like you do when you see a small child make a stupid mistake and hurt himself slighly. You smile, shake your head, dust them off and send them on their merry way.

But I agree, The Edge deserves a PhD. Bono just deserves a pair of contacts.

Mike Salmo (salmo), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

It's times like this that I wonder why I'm in grad school when obviously I should have taken the equivalent route to my degree by BECOMING A ROCK STAR.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

has any rock star ever gotten an honorary doctorate in physics?

geeta (geeta), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

They should give one to George Clinton.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Brian May needed only to defend his thesis to complete his doctorate in astronomy.
Other than that, I'm not aware of a physics/rockstar connection.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Starship probably deserve a degree in Town Planning.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 05:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"Urban Core Construction Using Rock and Roll Techniques"
a thesis submitted toward a Ph.D. in Urban Planning by Starship

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

It's an extraordinary achievement. Not so much because of the rock, because that's essential for any building project, but the because of the roll. Only a genius or a madman could envisage such an unstable technique.

Do not forget, however, that we helped them. We all did it together. Degrees all round!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 06:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Doesn't Art Garfunkel hold a doctorate in mathematics?

Joseph McCombs, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"My wife is Dr. Bono. She is not Dr. Larry."

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Donna wins!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)
