Kompakt fantasy disco would-be champ finally gives in to his inner New Romantic and loverman balladeer. Before now, I kind of thought his vocals sounded a little creepy - but they work here. Anyone else heard/agree/disagree?

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

The answer is yes.

(But have you heard him do Hamlisch?)

Stacey Pollen (Andy K), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, no. sounds like something that would end up in a mix somewhere

dleone (dleone), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone posted the Kompakt 100 tracklist up in this bitch yet?

I'll go find the Kompakt S&D thread.

i really like this track but it has N-O-T-H-I-N-G on 'timecode.'

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Justus Kohncke

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 20:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i just just learnt how to spell his name.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 18 May 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Re: spelling. It's Köhncke. Or Koehncke if you can't get the umlaut. I'm a fan (of the umlaut and Köhncke)

Guymauve (Guymauve), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 07:02 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys have heard his cover of "Old Man" by Neil Young right??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

He also covers "Wichita Lineman" and "Nobody Does it Better"(!). Wasn't his first album all covers?

I quite like his new single ("Durch Die Nacht") for Kompakt Pop too.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, you know what's still awesome? timecode.

How is Justus Köhncke pronounced?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Kyooonkay

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I do not believe that to be true.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i do

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:45 (twenty-one years ago)

What about the Justus?

The terrible thing is that I am so clueless about German pronunciation that I am not ever going to know whether someone is winding me up or not until I try it out in some trendy Cologne record shop and get laughed out of town.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Kern-chke. I think. Maybe Kern-ker. Definitely Kern. The umlaut puts an "e" like stress on the o, turning it into a porno sound.

___ (___), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I do believe that to be true. Thank you.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Doesn't he sample a track from "Pet Sounds" for the track "Weil Du Mich Verstehst"? I can't recall which track he samples though. It's the marimba and string bit.

paul c (paul c), Tuesday, 20 July 2004 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, he does. I found the sample. It's "Let's go away for awhile".

Anyone seen him play out...got to make a decision whether to see him or a Mathew Jonson/Ritchie Hawtin double bill. Am feeling Justus and friends' musical outptut and reckon Hawtin may well be monolithic techno but I'm scared Justus can't stitch two records together. Any thoughts?

angus-macdonald (Audiophonics), Friday, 10 September 2004 07:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I would say go for Justus, as his live events don't seem to come around as much as Hawtin.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:17 (twenty-one years ago)

See Jonson and then go home.

You'll get more sleep that way.

Andy K (Andy K), Friday, 10 September 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

that isn't a very nice thing to say mr. K.

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Saturday, 11 September 2004 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(not that I disagree or anything)
