The opening to Unwound's "Leaves Turn Inside You"

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

The Siren-y Guitar Loop of Ministry's Burning Inside.

I have no idea why but the first "ping" of Echoes by Pink Floyd really gets me.

don (don), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

OTMFNM

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking about this the other day, and I'm pretty sure it's indisputably "planet telex" first track on The Bends. Radiohead if you really needed to ask...

Qualifies for best opening to an album, also....

"OTMFNM "

whats the N for?

don (don), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

don (don), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Qualifies for best opening to an album, also....

You are sadly mistaken. That has to be the opening to Manowar's Into Glory Ride ;-)

The opening frantic notes of Dave Gedge's guitar on the Wedding Present's "Kennedy".

I WANT TO CHANGE MY ANSWER!!!

to the chuga-chuga guitar riff intro of:

Out In The Kitchen by

THE MOTHER FUCKING THINKING FELLERS UNION 282

ddb, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Unwound - 'Leaves Turn Inside You' is wot I thought of first, also...

MBV - Loveless & Isn't Anything robot snare
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker bwaoahaohahghhh

I love the intros to both of Hella's LPs as well, the old school game tune is cool as fuck and the intro to 'The Devil Isn't Red' got me proper exited the first time I heard it.

TomB (TomB), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

joan jett's "iiiiii" in "crimson and clover"

The wishing bell that begins John Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over."

Joseph McCombs, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

The opening bassline to Eight Miles High, with the snare resonating along with it. I'd like to hear an entire song done that way (on purpose.)

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Just pops to mind: when I was a kid, an uncle of mine had a tape that started with a robot voice saying 'I am your automatic lover'. I have no idea what artist performed this song and if I would still consider it to be terrific after not hearing it for at least 20 years. Anyway, that robot voice ranks high in opening sounds that made an impression.

Roger in Mokum (Roger T), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:08 (twenty-two years ago)

the flute (?) that opens tennessee ernie ford - sixteen tons
the sap that opens "weak become heroes"
the speech that opens "mr. kirk's nightmare"
the piano that opens "so what"
the timestretched vocals that open the seminal jungle tungle that i can't remember the name of

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

it's the Radiophonic Workshop's 'Dr Who Theme' RIGHT?

Hahaha...yes, but it's very difficult to impersonate when you're trying to tell a schoolmate about how a programme ended.

Wizzard's See My Baby Jive (my first single) also has a great opening.

Jez (Jez), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

roger, that's from this lp

The phased fade-in synth-drone of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love"; or the very similar phased-guitar intro of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" (Led Zeppelin).

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Pink Floyd are all over this -- definitely the 'ping' in echoes -- the 'whooooosh' in wish you were here -- and don't forget the money sounds in money

mrjosh (mrjosh), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

The guitar riff at the start of "When Doves Cry".
Obvs.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

roger, that's from this lp

Roger in Mokum (Roger T), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The clav (or is it a distorted couple of low rhodes notes?) that goes "ba-damp" in the intro of space's carry me on turn me on.

Dan Balis, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:28 (twenty-two years ago)

the intro, up until the drums kick in on the bats 'block of wood'

the (hugely distinctive) bass was actually played by kaye on that track (rather than paul)..

chris andrews (fraew), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Gene Ween screaming "LET ME TELL YOU 'BOUT THE FUCKIN' BITCH, DEAN-O!!!" on Ween's "Common Bitch."

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

The fuzzed drum kit opening to The Beach Boys' "Do It Again" has always sounded pretty good to me.

jim wentworth (wench), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:04 (twenty-two years ago)

the blurting horns in the beginning of bob and earl's "harlem shuffle".... which, most probably would recognize as the beginning to "jump around", by house of pain.

it's a call to attention... get ready to shake that ass!
