Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Gravediggaz, yes?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Baaderoni (Fabfunk), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

First Boogiemonsters album. Classic.

(my liking of dmx and gravediggaz prompted this thread)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Three 6 Mafia - Da Unbreakables. Seriously. On headphones in the dark, it's intense. Big gothic minor-key synth backdrops to lyrics detailing all kinds of mayhem.

also David Banner - "Might Getcha"

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

seek: onry ozzborn, alias, necro, cage

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"Might Getcha" has this gong sound that rings at the beginning of the bar, just like on "Black Sabbath"

Broheems (diamond), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Killah Priest, definitely.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, Alex OTM about Rubberoom. They even have a track where the MCs play the role of a vampire.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Esham!

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

NECRO FOR REAL. I <3 Necro.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Goodie Mob had some kinda goth moments.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Wu-Tang ownz - I'm surprised only Killah Priest has been mentioned so far. Tical 2000 might suck but Method Man's totally decked out in HR Giger goth gear from head to toe... Wu-Tang's always had a no-budget horror movie aspect to them.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha, I was going to say PSYCHOPATHIC RECORDS TO THREAD but everyone would have ignored me as the Insane Clown Posse freak.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

bone thugz n harmony

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

rjd2 (sound)

look: you don't get more goth than the costumes on the dungeon family cd. though it's kind of medieval goth rather than victorian goth.

robine, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually Dan I almost suggested them, except that they are goofy, and we all know that there is no room in the cavernous abyss that is the divine subversive culture sunlight-dwellers refer to as "goth" for goofy.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 20 May 2004 09:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say 9 Deadly Venoms by Depth Charge but i fear I may have misunderstood the question.

flowersdie (flowersdie), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I would say Nearly God and Pre-Millenium Tension before Maxinquaye.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmm Nearly God and PMT and Angels w/ Dirty are all darker and "ooh my mind is so tortured" than Maxinquaye (plus obvs the Siouxsie cover on the Nearly God album (which wasn't as good as the Slick Rick cover on the single)), but when it came out and I was trying to describe it to non-music-nerd types (or jazz/funk playing friends) "gothic hip-hop" was the actual phrase I used, because it really really was like a perfectly-designed cross between my two favourite genres in high-school.
