I like that one about Marilyn Monroe. Gotta pull this album out tonight to listen to.

QUOTATIONS FROM KRAUTROCKSAMPLER (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

This whole thing is really good except when the vocals or guitar sound like Hendrix.

"Restless Skylight...Race from here... Overhead" is good too.

PRESIDENT OF KRAUTROCK LP OF THE MONTH CLUB (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:34 (twenty-two years ago)

PS - I THINK J. MASCIS LISTENED TO THIS.

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

what format do you have it on, Jon? I got my nice tasty gatefold double LP at a Louisville thrift store for $5.

QUOTATIONS FROM COLLECTOR SCUM (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

QUOTATIONS FROM SHELL OIL (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I love it when Jon discovers records that are also my favorite records ever... Jon's pick is OTM, btw.

You heard Yeti and Phallus Dei yet?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the part of Tanz Der Lemminge where the dude starts hacking up and choking. The subtle riffage behind the choking is awesome.

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:52 (twenty-two years ago)

what's the song with the heavy flange on the funky drumming?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I have Yeti and Hijack, also.

I'm more into Motorik-Kraut than psych-Kraut. What are IMPORTANT MOTORIK BANDZ.

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that's alsp part of that major opus Jon mentioned above... "Restless Skylight-Transistor-Child"

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:54 (twenty-two years ago)

JON WILLIAMS DO YOU LIKE EARLY GURU GURU LIKE UFO HINTEN OR KANGURU?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 18:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I HAVE NEVER HEARD ANY OF THAT CRAP. MY KRAUTROCK KNOWLEDGE IS LIMITED TO AMON DUUL, KRAFTWERK, NEU! AND ASH RA TEMPEL. IAN IS ONLY INTO PONCEY PSYCH SHIT AND HATES THE MOTORIK.

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

dude Amon Duul is poncey psych shit, that's why I like it so much.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

HEY, I LIKE NEU!, LET'S BE FAIR YOU CUNTS.

WALTER WEGMULLER ANYONE?!?!?!?!

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Stumbling Over Melted Moonlight" Christ, who can tell when one song starts and the next one ends? All those nutty titles that are even hard to READ on the back cover!

Phallus Dei is still my favourite Duul. (I Only have the first three.)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 20 May 2004 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Stencil, I believe "Marilyn Monroe Memorial Church" is the flanged-drums track you're referring to.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Thursday, 20 May 2004 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Pretty crap album by ADII standards, not as bad as "Carnival In Babylon" tho.

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 20 May 2004 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as bad as Hijack

24 hours with the King of Snake. (SNAKE!) (ex machina), Thursday, 20 May 2004 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks Myonga, couldn't remember. Didn't hook up my turntables to listen to it last night, either. : (

Also Dadaismus is completely insane.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

"yeti" kicks the shit out of tanz der lemminge (even tho i still really like t d l ) mainly b/c yeti has dave anderson playing on it, and he's a fucking great bass player, whereas the guy playing bass on t d l is barely competent, and it does drag the rockingness of it down a bit.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

well Yeti is the best one, yeah, but this is the TDL thread.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I know, but I can't remember the name of the track I really like on TDL. It's the short instrumental one w/organ on it.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah I'm shit with song titles.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I disagree (w/Pashmina re: bass playing.. the bass playing is wonderfully inept and great at times on TDL)... also I would agree, if Yeti eliminated the second half of the double-record (and perhaps released the second half as its own side thing.) TDL starts off slow but gets better and better and better as it goes along... all 4 sides of the vinyl (or all 70 minutes on the CD, whatever.)

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Yeti is strong all the way through to the end, and don't like the second half of Lemmings. And can anybody tell me why some of the extra 'unreleased' tracks on the reissue of Phallus Dei are the same as the last few tracks of Lemmings? They sound the same.

rw, Thursday, 20 May 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

The trouble with "Lemmings" is it sounds like a prog album but an extremely badly played and produced prog album.... but not badly enough.

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 21 May 2004 08:39 (twenty-two years ago)

four years pass...

"syntelman's march of the roaring seventies" could be easter church music

kamerad, Sunday, 12 April 2009 19:51 (seventeen years ago)

ten years pass...

I must admit I originally thought "Chamsin Soundtrack" was just a cool title for a piece of music, I didn't know it was actually from the soundtrack of a film called "Chamsin". Later I thought it only referred to the track, "The Marilyn Monroe Memorial Church", and the three tracks on Side 4 were just studio jams added to fill out the album... but it turns out the entire second LP is the from the soundtrack to the film, "Chamsin", as this (NSFW/WTF) clip proves:

... dubbed in English with Greek subtitles... well, why not?
