what artist/song has been sampled at least a lot...?

james brown probably wins all frequency awards, but i'm also wondering about kraftwerk, and who else at least comes close? and what songs in particular?

That hawaiian-sounding Turtles one.

Sansai, Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Winston's "Amen Brother" wins (possibly by a landside.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Art of Noise. Prodigy's "Firestarter", for instance.
Years ago, I remember hearing that AoN were third in "sampling frequency" behind the Godfather and the 'Werk. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I deny it.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 21:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i find it hard to believe that Kraftwerk has been sampled more than Parliament.

I thought it was, like, a well-known fact that "Funky Drummer" was the most-sampled song of all time, and #2 was "Apache" by the Incredible Bongo Band.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 20 May 2004 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Cut up variations of the Amen break were used on like some absurb percentage of jungle and hardcore records from the 91-95 (and it was a big hip hop break to boot and there are retro-junglists now who are basically Amen revivalists who release stuff.) So if any other break or sample has too overcome 1,000s and 1,000s of uses to every come close to "Amen Brother". I just don't see how "Funky Drummer" could top that. No single hip hop sample has (to my knowledge) ever used as much as the Amen break.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 20 May 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I concur, cap'n.
