At AS220 on Empire Street downtown. $6

Here's the full info:

: Come see Barnacled play with a little bit of sound on
Thursday night, May 20, at AS220. We'll be performing
a stunning new half-hour long number entitled "Third
Treatment" (which is actually an odd reworking of
something else you've heard, as we reduce/reuse/
recycle for the health of our planet, earth). then we'll
play a newer short thing called "Rattles" (as in, the
present-tense verb, not the plural noun). The latter
appears on our new lp/cd, tentatively titled "Hints,
Notes, and Touches." Someone, put it out. You won't
believe how good it is.

Oh yes, also appearing Thursday are our fine friends
from DC, From Quagmire. Plus Simon Wickham-Smith
and M.R.

please please us.

i've never heard Barnacled - aren't there people from The Eyesores in that band? Are they any good?

Barnacled are good. Simon Wickham-Smith was good last Saturday - really nice guy too.

Yeah, Barnacled is Alec Redfearn & some other Eyesores people. They're weird free jazz/noise/goofiness. Also, Alec has a band The Haldolls who are bass/accordion/drums and do traditional bulgarian folk songs.

sounds neat. I'll check it out.

I find Simon Wickham Smith's music mind-numbingly dull. I admit I haven't heard much since his collabs with Youngs back in the day, but I always felt he dragged Richard Youngs into the new age-y depths of lameness.

hmm well he was pretty loud and un-new agey last Saturday (although I think there was some processed chanting). There were even beats!

this maybe a good enough excuse to get me down to prvdnce. Ian, still partying on friday?

Matt Boch (Matt Boch), Thursday, 20 May 2004 03:31 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man, I wish I could be in Providence tonight.
Barnacled are one of my favorite bands, and Simon was great last weekend.
had lunch with him on Monday too...super nice and funny and smart.

I heard that a relatively popular Providence label (is there more than 1?) might put out the Barnacled record, but if not, Barnacled should send me a copy to check out.

the only low point of Simon's set was when Tommy turned on the lights!

OMFG MATT BOCH

Be sure to loop. (ex machina), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I dunno what the deal with the new Barnacled is. I'd be kind of surprised if Corleone didn't put it out, since they put out the last one. But Load does have more financial resources.

heading out the door now.

xoxo!
