six years pass...

I never understood what "With the Beatles" was supposed to mean... couldn't they think of something catchier for their first album made after they knew they had hit it huge? Someone please explain....

original title was Necrotism: Descanting the Insalubrious iirc & it would be years before anybody paid tribute to the Four's original idea in song

it is kind of a weird album name, now that you mention it. was there a precedent for it? With The Elvis?

I'm sorta partial to "Bathe Wheel Tits" myself.

xposts It's probably as simple as albums having less importance compared to singles in the early 60s. The Beach Boys' early albums were almost as uninspiring - all variations on "surfing"

Yes, but the Beach Boys were prodded by their record company (Capitol) to produce LPs at an absurdly fast rate of 3 or 4 per year, resulting in albums that mixed timeless classics with utter dreck, and I don't think the band even named their early LPs. I'm sure they wouldn't have called an album "Shut Down, Vol. 2" given they never released a Vol. 1. Too bad, because the best songs from almost any two consecutive early BB albums would have made a stunner of an LP, which probably would have improved their repute in the long run if they put out only one or two albums a year with all great stuff.

Shutdown Vol 1 is great! Not too much Beach Boys, and just enough Robert Mitchum. "Brontosaurus Stomp" has timpani that should be sampled in somthing.
