Help Me Spot the Samples on the new Jason Forrest

Partly to educate myself for review-writing purposes, partly cuz I think it would be cool to make a mix CD of all the original songs he samples.

I caught a couple on my own (Bennie and the Jets, Who Are You), and AMG helped me with a couple more, but generally I'm pretty bad with ID'ing samples even when I KNOW I've heard 'em a million times before. On the album's first track alone, there are at least three samples that have already permanently burned a hole in my brain and yet I can't place their names right offhand.

Great thread topic! I've been trying to figure it out, too, and I've been frustrated with how many samples I recognize but don't know.

I'll start: I think the single piano chord from "Spectacle" is Sly's "Everyday People." I just started the album, and if I can grab more with my at-work ears, I'll post.

Satan Cries Again: CCR's "Run Through the Jungle". Is the clapping in the middle from a Fogerty solo track?

Oh yeah I did catch that one b/c you actually hear Fogerty's voice. Is that Sly sample the first one you hear on the CD? Whatever it is, it must have been used for NBA promos or pregame shows or some shit b/c that's what pops into my head whenever I hear it, just those exact same few notes.

No, it's not the first. The first thing I hear after the scratches is whatever it is that Will Smith sampled for "Miami." The Sly is the acoustic piano that Forrest gives us one chord at a time. I think you're right, though, that there is a sample on here used for NBA promos.

This is harder than I thought it would be...

ha, there you go, that's it! i knew that wasn't sly i was hearing, but yeah, it's def. the same sample as "miami"

Wilson and Alroy tell me its The Whispers' "And the Beat Goes On"

The obvious one is "Daybreaker by ELO" on "Why I Love ELO" I guess
"INKhUK" samples Meco's "Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk"
what I want to know is what that great synth solo's from on "spectacle" as well as pretty much every sample on "Event (Hellicopter Passing By)" and "180 Mar Ton."

whoops, I guess that would be "Daybreaker" by ELO... and it's only obvious to me, cuz I love that track
