pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't ask which songs move your bowels to your mouth.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Electribe 101 "Talking with Myself"

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

charming!

pete b. (pete b.), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

orbital "technologique park" immediately to mind.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh right did you mean electronic songs which move you away from shit "indietronica" forever?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Kraftwerk, anyone?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Lots of electronic songs move me, I can't even begin to start a list. Why should it move me any less than any other type of song?

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

cold emotionless music.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

because the instruments used did not grow in a greenhouse

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:36 (twenty-two years ago)

hstencil, It's more fun to compute.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

ain't nothing cold about hot circuits.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

But "cold, emotionless music" IS moving ... the recent SAW II thread is Exhibit A.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Barry Bruner, the point of the thread being to counteract the typical nonsense idea expressed by Ronan.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

what a stupid point

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan was being facetious, dolt.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

that to Mr. Saca, not slocki.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I think, as an album, my pick for moving electronic music would be Autechre's LP5.

A thesis could be written on this album! It’s totally pure computer music. It’s faceless and inhuman, but at the same time darkly emotional. The CD artwork communicates this feeling too. If you listen to it alone late at night you feel like Autechre is a computer struggling to communicate with you.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't we all charming?

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

you must be the toast of your art school.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Why am I bothering trying to converse with a bunch of assholes? Bye.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha the guy who first insults on the thread calls everyone else assholes! Brilliant.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I was fucking joking. And I'm also aware of the fact that sarcasm and deadpan humor don't translate well through this medium.

Salvador Saca (Mr. Xolotl), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

only if it's fed through a granular synthesis program, apparently

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan was facetiously stating the line about electronic music being cold and emotionless -- and even that "criticism" is folly, as I pointed out.
But the point of the thread is not to counteract the typical nonsense idea stated by Ronan, because there is no point to this thread. For instance, nobody starts threads titled "Classic Rock songs that move you" or "Pop songs that move you" -- the subject is just far too general.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

oh no! dictionary.com! all is lost!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

'papua new guinea'

but duuuuuuuh all music is 'electronic' unless you're into cat-gut abuse klaaat.

enrique (Enrique), Thursday, 20 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

nobody starts threads titled "Classic Rock songs that move you" or "Pop songs that move you" -- the subject is just far too general.

And I started this one because electronic music is sometimes not even considered music, and even if so, it is commonly classified as cold and unemotional.

LETS RAVE

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Which album does Halcyon or Halcyon (and on and on) come from (Orbital)? I always quite like that song when I hear it. I'm not really an electronic expert (sorry). I also really like Fourtet 'Rounds' -- not sure if it is very moving per se. I bought BOC Geogadaddi kind of based on reputation of BOC but was disapointed. Is 'Music Has the Right to Children' significantly better and different sounding.
If you can answer any these q's, cheers!

Gilles Meloche (Gilles Meloche), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

brown album.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 20 May 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

That Four Tet record was well-produced but imo, has no good songs in it. Save for "She Moves She."

i was playing pool in an arcade/amusements type thing today and faithless' "god is a dj" came on (there was one of those video jukeboxes so the video came on as well). i hadn't heard that song in years, so it was particularly moving. me and my friends used to love that one and talked about it a lot when we were 16, the video used to be on mtv all the time - with maxi jazz doing sign language. at the moment, it is the song that moves me the most, but i will think of more.

Derrick May is king of this thread.

So bloody overrated.

...anyway Carl Craig is the king of it.

Two more...

I find the melody of Underworld's "Juanita" absolutely moving, despite not having a single clue about what the song's about (if its even about anything, per se). I do find the melody quite stirring.

Likewise WIlliam Orbit's big pulsing blippity blippity take on "Adagio for Strings" (though yes, the credit there should goto Samuel Barber, I suppose) Still it moves me both emotionaly and literally (when I'm in me dancing pants)

I'm not sure Derrick May is overrated, really. There was a suspicion of that a few years ago, though, true enough. R-Tyme's R-Theme is a fine piece of emotional electonic music. Naive strings. Really emotional melodies are often naive and innocent.

Because I said so.
