I still like vertically challenged. but she went lightweight with a quickness.

what's going on with her? seems to be missing from the media.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Monday, 9 February 2009 11:42 (seventeen years ago)
i've been getting promo emails about her new album, along with a 12-minute teaser mix. some sounds promising. but i actually liked public warning, so don't trust me. (there's a bit on the mix that borrows from "close to you," which i don't know if it's on the album or not but is a little o_0.)
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 9 February 2009 15:26 (seventeen years ago)
(maybe she figures that if m.i.a. can get rich off the clash, a cure sample is the fastest way to fame. soon to follow: "people are people" with dizzee rascal and dave gahan.)

heard this on 1Xtra - eeh. would probably do better business to get on a calvinharris-y electropop joint.
― O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 9 February 2009 15:38 (seventeen years ago)
Her whole aesthetic is terrible and has been since, what, the first half of 2005?
― Maximo Park Ji-Sung (Matt DC), Monday, 9 February 2009 15:42 (seventeen years ago)

I've heard the new album, think it's spotty, but like it anyway. It's also short -- 10 songs -- which is a good thing. (Didn't notice anything sounding like "Close To You.") But yeah, I liked Public Warning too. People who hated that one will almost definitely hate the new one even more.
― xhuxk, Monday, 9 February 2009 15:54 (seventeen years ago)
Is it more like "Public Warning" end of that album or the "My England" end?
― nosotros niggamos (HI DERE), Monday, 9 February 2009 15:55 (seventeen years ago)
uh ok i actually am liking the new album. "human" could be enormous
― k3vin k., Sunday, 22 February 2009 21:12 (seventeen years ago)
Chuck, do you mean "Close to Me"? Because one song totally is her rhyming on top of that Cure song.
― Matos W.K., Sunday, 22 February 2009 21:46 (seventeen years ago)
it would be awesome if she rhymed over "close to you"
yachtgrime!
― 鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 23 February 2009 05:18 (seventeen years ago)
I was answering Paper Plans' "Close to You" claim. ("Close To Me" is another question, but then I don't always have the best Curedar in the world.)
― xhuxk, Monday, 23 February 2009 06:28 (seventeen years ago)
"Close To Me" is a good idea (haven't heard the song) - worked excellently as the basis for a dancehall riddim about six years ago.
― Tim F, Monday, 23 February 2009 06:43 (seventeen years ago)
yeah sorry i meant "close to me." i'm having song-title dyslexia lately.
― paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 23 February 2009 07:04 (seventeen years ago)
There's a song called "Food Play" on the new album that makes me want to throw up.
― gtfoer spurlock (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 24 February 2009 22:13 (seventeen years ago)
all i really remember is "human" which was m.i.a.-biting at its most blatant but i thought it was really good!

Maybe not fantastic, but... I'm glad she's around.
― Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 02:19 (seventeen years ago)
Me too. Wonder if my review will be the only one not to even mention "So Human" (which I thought was one of the duller tracks on the album, Cure sample or no.) Had no idea it was considered a "key cut" when I wrote that.
― xhuxk, Wednesday, 15 April 2009 02:33 (seventeen years ago)
My review doesn't mention "So Human" Chuck, though it's only 300 words so I didn't go into too many specifics. I think it's a stronger record than people are giving it credit for, though on the other hand all the people who are saying it's a massive letdown are correspondingly overrating the debut.

Oh boy.
From Stereogum:
R.I.P. Lady Sov's Music Career • If it wasn't clear already... The Biggest Midget In The Game's appearing on Celebrity Big Brother with luminaries like Stephen Baldwin, Heidi Fleiss, cross-dressing cage fighter Alex Reid, Ronnie Wood's ex-girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova, and Sisqo. Everybody get awkward.
― Darin, Monday, 4 January 2010 18:54 (sixteen years ago)

the "got you dancing" song of hers that they use in this bally fitness commercial (or whatever the fuck) is one of the most dreadful things i've ever heard -- never heard ch-ching so i will always remember her as pretty much useless
― waka shame (J0rdan S.), Friday, 22 January 2010 01:18 (sixteen years ago)
I hate that song, but I do like her track that samples The Cure, "So Human".
