What band doesn't look like they would play the music that they play?

I recently saw a photo of Laika and the Coasmonauts in which they looked like some kind of Flock of Seagulls tribute band (that was a joke, right?).

Which artists' look "surprised" you when you first saw them, or a picture of them?

The Darkness.

aren't there 2 Laikas? I think maybe there was a proto-'shroomadelica' band w/that name that existed separately from the clectro consortium

Laika + Cosmonauts = Finnish surf-rockers, innit?

I remember being shocked, as a naive teenager, when I first saw a picture of Steve Albini.

I don't know a lot about The Misfits. I'm guessing they may have had different phases and probably sounded different live. But, still, croony rockabilly isn't what I expected from a band that looks like that.

they look as shoddy as their music.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

the beatles.

Toon (Skelter), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

GWAR. I've always found their music to be too clean and polished sounding in light of their visual aesthetic.

you haven't heard Earth A.D. have you?

Alex in NYC OTM about GWAR.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd hardly call The Misfits "croony rockabilly". That may apply to "American Nightmare," but not much else.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 20 May 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, to be fair there is a rockabilly/old-school rock n' roll influence to a lot of their songs but they never played out-and-out rockabilly.

I find that Grandaddy make me think, "no way can these guys be responsible for this music" and yet at the same time, "actually, no one else in the world could be responsible for this music".

my wife had the same reaction when she looked in the CD booklet...she thought they would look like the Strokes or something...

He looks more Teutonic now. More Florian Schneider, less Joey Ramone.
