duke madd, Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for groaning but it doesn't really help me. but tell me why you are groaning by all means.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

he has many aliases, and also alopecia.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

He's got a 12" out on Codek records. It's bitchin'.

sexyDancer, Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

cheers lauren and sD. anyone got any biographical info?

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"tell me why you are groaning by all means"
"anyone got any biographical info?"

would take too much time. what's up with the !!! swipe in the context of this query? i would say you are off-base a bit. guess that's part of the groan too.

duke query, Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

it was a throw away comment in a relatively throw away context. just posted a question to get information. i think that is reasonable.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

all the info u need 2 know:

yow!!!

sexyDancer, Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

sure, but the info is kinda neither here nor there. he is musically-talented. and lately he can be handled fine. not so much the case years ago believe me. he went to high school with bobby conn. explains a lot probably.

duke confidence, Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

ok. now i have made sense of it. thanks folks.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

He used to DJ with me every week. Some nights he'd show up with at 1am wearing no shirt holding nothing but a Stevie Nicks record with no sleeve, which he'd then play over and over again. Other times he'd show up carrying no records, but his girlfriend, whom he introduced me to as Juanita, would follow holding tons of records. I later learned her name was Renee. Sometimes I'd go home and take my headphones with me, but as I left he'd still be DJing, sans headphones, aggressively mixing and matching the records live untill the bartender pulled the plug. He threw a weekly party called POGO at a club called FUN around the turn of the century, promoted as "Disco Punk". He did karaoke and played Greater Reward by the Severed Heads. One night, and maybe some of you were there, Luke Jenner brought a shitty microphone to Plant Bar, and Luke, Freddie and some totally random rapper guy off the street sang on top of the records. I wish I could say this was some amazing thing that should go down in history, but they mostly sounded pretty bad. The Rapper must've doubled as a car service driver because he kept offering to give people rides and giving out his phone number and suggesting that people contact him if they need a ride somewhere.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"Freddie" left behind his headphones at a Satyrday Knights party ... and THEY ONLY HAD ONE EAR!!! Auugghhh!!!

sexyDancer, Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks for that dan

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Thursday, 20 May 2004 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll relay some mikey anecdotes on my webradio show tonite if you guys want. eastvillageradio.com after 10pm EST. call in. or better yet i'll set up a cage match between him and some select east village detractors, and just suspend a mic over the proceedings.
that would be a hot single.
i like mike fine BTW. but he do have a history.

duke adventure, Thursday, 20 May 2004 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

duke drunk, Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

but no mikey there to drop me on the dancefloor whilst attempting to dip, sigh.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I miss maybe, 3 or 4 of those plant days. The rest I can do without.

I miss the days when I never left my house and had no responsibilities and would come home after work at 6pm and the only thing I thought about was what to have for dinner and what movie to watch.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate movies

duke implant, Thursday, 20 May 2004 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 21 May 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

how much are those, Dan?!?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 21 May 2004 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.headphone.com/layout.php?topicID=3&subTopicID=26&productID=0020080280

but I got them for cheaper at some place on the corner of atlantic ave and 4th called pro-line. I think I paid more like 60 or 80 bucks. I used to have the fancy silver sony ones but they broke, same way many other people I know who had them broke. The model one down, the black sony's are sturdier and do the job. But these Sennheisers sound great, isolate great, feel great and have lasted and lasted.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh now a headphone thread! - my black sonys just broke on me in a very annoying way. i wonder if it's the way all those others broke? might give those sennheisers a look.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a good headphone recommendation thread over on ile, if you want to search for it.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

may have to pick some of those up after my next paycheck.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Did your black sonys snap in a way so that the phones don't rest on your ears anymore? Take a page out of the Mad Mikey Book and rip those suckers in half. Don't wear underwear.

sexyDancer, Friday, 21 May 2004 14:40 (twenty-two years ago)

they snapped off at the bit where the phone is connected to the bit which swivels around. really annoying. i can never dj well in underwear anyway but cheers for the advice

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's totally a design flaw of the Sony's, I'm tellin' ya. I've seen it so many times. These Sennheiser's have been really sturday...Mikey's used them, Porkchop, any number of people I've dj'd with, they've been through a lot and they're still holding up. They're a little high-end-y, I think they're more about good sound then the Sony's which are more specifically for DJing, with more bass, but I've never had trouble with them. They don't rotate the same way as the Sony's and seem awkward the first time you use them, but are quite comfortable when you get used to it. If you're not constantly mixing with the one earphone btw the ear and shoulder, that stuff doesn't matter anyway. I'd get these just for listening at home as well.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 21 May 2004 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

well i'm sold.

myke boomnoise (myke boomnoise), Friday, 21 May 2004 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
This is funny. I almost married that dude. Will always love him. All I can say is thank GOD for Renee. His ex. We will forever be bonded. Like we made it thru a war, I lost an arm, she lost a leg but now we can sit around and talk about it like old vets. Or not talk about him. Always love him, but DAMN!!

Kelly Rae (kellyrae), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 23:01 (twenty years ago)

My father bought him that stupid hat he's wearing in the picture above.

Kelly Rae (kellyrae), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 23:36 (twenty years ago)

One of the last times I saw Mikey he brought up this thread.

Then he showed me how all his teeth were knocked out by eating a samosa.

Met you way back when at Plant Bar I think, Kelly, or somewhere else.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 04:37 (twenty years ago)

Hey I remember meeting you. The first time he super glued them back in they were sticking straight out. It took everything in me not to die from laugh. Poor thing. He had had those teeth since he was like 16 or something. He has brand new shiny teeth that actually fit his mouth and he looks great. He went around for a couple weeks with no front teeth. Like everything was completely normal.

Kelly Rae (kellyrae), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 14:30 (twenty years ago)

why are you googling your ex

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Kelly Rae (kellyrae), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

Dan I bought my decks from Proline!! They've totally changed their store around and all the guys I used to know there don't work there any more. They still have outrageous markup on everything, though, and you still need to haggle them down and pay in cash.

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:42 (twenty years ago)

So this guy, he is kind of a little eccentric, yes?
