I know these aren't really related in style, but which would get your vote for the better overall album?

Musicology is better as a whole, but Quarry's peaks are much higher.

It has peaks? I counted one.

John Cei Douglas (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

There's at least four by my count.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you count them all via the one finger?

John Cei Douglas (John Cei Douglas), Thursday, 20 May 2004 21:46 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "peaks"

Musicology!

Really? I've never been a Morrisey fan, but surely Musicology is just another half arsed, preaching, self indulgent mess from Prince? I know, even when he indulges it's pretty amazing (see every Prince guitar solo ever!), but to these ears everything since that Crystal Ball set with 'The Truth' acoustic thing is just embarrassing to listen to. Sounds like a Prince parody.

At least 'You Are the Quarry' sounds like Morrisey; its just what I'd expected from a slightly messed up star with a much hyped, much talked about 'comeback' album.

TomB (TomB), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

oh god, is this some kind of joke?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 21 May 2004 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

it's interesting to watch the huge label / media push behind musicology, which is (kind of) working - number 3 in the US I think. But it seems a case of trying to convince people he's back; the album is, as TomB says, just another poor Prince LP.

All of the Musicology reviews that I've come upon list "Cinnamon Girl" as the Big Single from the album, so I downloaded it. It's poor and derivative.

The First Of The Gang To Die and Irish Blood English Heart are definite peaks, and they're the only two songs I've heard. At the same time, though, the production really turns me off, so I'm willing to bet that most of the album would make me nauseated.

But You Are The Quarry wins. Better title, better cover, and at least a few better songs.
