I imagine if you ever called him Stevie Morissey in his presence he would stab you in the leg with a pencil.
I am looking forwad to seeing "Later" though.

Sadly, Later now seems to be Morrissey's natural habitat. He looked much better than on Jonathan Ross last week. Perhaps ditching that red jacket helped.

I still don't see what the fuss about 'First Of The Gang To Die' is all about, but 'Let Me Kiss You' was quite touching. Is there more? I've turned off.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i wonder if Morrissey told Junior Murvin and Johhny Clarke they were "vile" in the green room.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Morrissey 40something in suit does look rather strange.

By the way that band "The Ordinary Boys" are punchable - generic lame britpop/ pub rock/ melodic punk-rock.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not a huge Morrissey apologist, but that 'vile' thing really is a daft stick to beat him with (maybe you're joking, I don't know). As his recent, really quite funny response to questioning about it reveals. As does his choosing of The Cats' Swan Lake to go on his 'Under the Influence' compilation.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Smiths track on now...number 1 in the festive 50

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

What songs did he perform?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

double decker bus....ten tone track...kills the both.....

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

why is it a daft stick? and no i wasnt joking ill use anything to beat him.

xp

jed_ (jed), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Martian just made me run out of the room and catch the last minute and a half. I'm still a sucker.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

When I first turned on, I heard the Ordinary Boys and thought they were Morrissey.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

bring back the whistle test/ tube type format music show..i don't like the Later format

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

haha that happened to me too n

gareth (gareth), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Ordinary Boys sounded a nitemare combo of Shed 7/ Gene/ Idlewild and some useless late 70s pub rock/ melodic punk band supporting The Jam

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

What don't you like about the format, exactly? (not that I like it, but I don't really see what was so much better about Whistle Test. The Tube, maybe)

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Ordinary Boys sounded a nitemare combo of Shed 7/ Gene/ Idlewild and some useless late 70s pub rock/ melodic punk band supporting The Jam

That sounds like my sister's idea of the perfect band.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

(And those who know of El Diablo's sister's taste well enough know just how damning this is.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

later studio atmosphere is too MOR /controlled - plus i don't like the music policy too AOR / 40 year old demographics /target idea of real/ worthy music

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello - you were wanting it to be like the Old Grey Whistle Test. Mark Ellen? 'Whispering' Bob fucking Harris!

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

they had a better music policy: i remember Rush and Mantronix in the Autumn of 1985 !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"Whispering" Bob Harris is an alumni of my high school, don't diss the permanently senile wonder.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

there were videos, music discussion, features, live slots, plus archive material..more of a mix

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Bring back The Roxy.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Bring back Born Sloppy.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

"Whispering" Bob Harris: Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiicc -- phfft , phfftt, ugh umm sorry I've just my arm off in disgust

omg, Friday, 21 May 2004 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

chewed

omg, Friday, 21 May 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Bob Boring Harris - should be booted off 6 Music.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"That was a great performance there, from The Pretenders, and I remember in 1978 a young Chrissie Hynde approaching me after a gig at the Corn Exchange, and inviting me to a dinner party at her house the following day, where I was introduced to a wonderful type of bread called a "foccacia". Next up, a classic performance from the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

What need have we of Born Sloppy when we have Weapons of Mass Distraction?

Patrick Kinghorn, Friday, 21 May 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Bring back The Priory.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember when Top of the Pops 2 started, and it was meant as an "alternative" to TOTP, which meant that it just played 187 Lockdown and Ben Folds Five?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

priory clinic that's where owl face/ ex jail bird from the libertines has booked himself into rehab.

dom, are you going into rehab due to "the Cobblers" play off penalties shoot out failure?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

This is so spooky - I look at Bob's website and I cannot help but hear him reading out the words on the page in my head.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ- it would bother me a lot more if it wasn't for the fact that Colin Calderwood isn't the best manager in the lower leagues. We should have gone through on away goals anyway if it wasn't for whichever idea changed that rule.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

look on the brightside Rushden & D got relegated, plus Cambridge and Oxford and Wycombe are not to far away..all fighting to get out of the 3rd next season

Bob Harris . typical talk .now here is a great new band from US...track starts.. it's ghastly trad rock.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, Cobblers vs Diamonds next season is going to be ON. We'll see which of us has the most pathetic firm.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

For some reason all this is reminding me again of Morrissey on 'My Top 10... with Andy Peebles' from 1984 Radio 1. I keep meaning to dig my tape of it out when I go home. Rita Pavone, Timi Yuro, The Tams, The Shirelles, John Leyton, Klaus Nomi, The Marvellettes, Sandie Shaw and two more that I can't remember and Google isn't helping with. Useless net Morrissey fans.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

dom, Rushden & D have a "firm" ha they play in a small town - population 6,000.

But you were only 11 in 1984, N ! how the heck do you remember it, older siblings?

DJ Martian (djmartian), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I got a bought a tape of it in 1988 or 89, at the height of my mail order Smiths collecting mania.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 21 May 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

haha, i do like the darren tackle analogy

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 22 May 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

If you tackle him, does he not bleed?

N. (nickdastoor), Saturday, 22 May 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

John Leyton omg
was it "Johnny Remember Me"?
That's not a bad track

de, Saturday, 22 May 2004 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

haha I can't believe someone is arguing for fucking garbage like 'grey whistle test' but nothing that's being posted by martian surprises me.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 22 May 2004 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, it was 'Johnny Remember Me'.

I've remembered one more - Françoise Hardy ('All Over The World').
