Christine! I love her. is there a new solo album coming out or what?? I keep hearing there is supposed to be one this summer. I've got your romantic pathos right here-

You can take me to paradise,
And then again you can be as cold ice.
I'm over my head,
But it sure feels nice.

You can take me anytime you like,
I'll be around if you think you might love me baby,
And hold me tight.

Your mood is like a circus wheel,
You're changing all the time,
Sometimes I can't help but feel,
That I'm wasting all of my time.

Think I'm looking on the dark side,
But everyday you hurt my pride,
I'm over my head,
But it sure feels nice,
I'm over my head,
But it sure feels nice.

It's the quiet dignity with which she sings that totally makes the song.

Christine McVie, because her huskiness seems to shade everything she sings, even the most untroubled statement of satisfaction like "You Make Loving Fun," with regret and doubt. Plus like in Fleetwood Mac she's got all these FRIENDS and LOVERS around to play off of.

Dusty in seven.

Peggy Lee >>>>>>>>>>>> Dusty >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>McVie

altho in "romantic pathos" stakes this equation is reversed

peggy lee is usually a bit too frosty for serious pathos no?

amateur!st (amateurist), Sunday, 23 May 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Jody, have you heard any Jane Relf from the first era of the band Renaissance (and later they reformed under the name Illusion; their material is far better than their cheesy band names)?

Her vocals have that same 'warm'/full-bodied quality that Christine McVie and Dusty had...

Christine is Perfect

An interesting pairing -- I guess what they have in common is they both seem very grown-up to me. Christine always sounded like the older sister to the rest of the band, and Dusty never exactly sounded young (the way, say, Leslie Gore or Diana Ross did). On the pathos question specificially, I give it to Dusty, but that's because Christine doesn't seem very pathos-centric to me -- she's too strong to seem tragic, you always get the feeling she'll roll with whatever comes and still be all right as long as she has her piano. Dusty seemed more vulnerable (maybe she shoulda got a piano).

I enjoy listening to both Dusty and Christine a lot. I honestly can't pick one over the other. (several moments pass) That's it. Sorry.

As for Peggy Lee: I'll take Jo Stafford.

been hearing a lot of mcvie on the radio. "oh daddy"--incredible. there is pathos in the lyrics, but strength to spare in the singing.

Dusty, I guess, but she often was surrounded by such overblown music. "In Memphis" is the only time she got it totally right. I like C.M. just fine too. Peggy Lee is better than either one of them.
