henry Flynt's 'i don't wanna' has the man on guitar (playing velvets style riffs) singing protests songs in '66. Recetly released on locust.

We also had a couple of angus maclise issues abt a couple of years back. Got hold of 'brain damage in oklahoma', the main track has great guitar/flute drones to his tabla drumming. Has that 'recorded inside a cave' ambience that gives it a macabre tone.

I Don't Wanna has a definate Fugs meets Velvets feel, with moments with some awesome raga-garage-drone-rock.

I'm not sure I understand the question but the Goodbye, Babylon comp is pretty much the greatest.

should have said 'archival releases'.

Any good things that were not released at the time, and only now are getting their first releases?

Well, except for the song U.S. Millie which was a single, the Theoretical Girls CD that was our first release on Acute is entirely unreleased material, culled from sources ranging from live tapes to 4 and 8 track studio recordings. The music is really cool arty/dissonant rock and roll in a very proto-Sonic Youth sense.

The 3 John Cale CDs on Table of the Elements are very cool. After so many years for Cale to let them release these early drone recordings is awesome.

Acute Records may be working on another completely unreleased yet wonderful LP by an often forgotten band but I'll hold off on discussing that for now!

I think it was more a case of Cale having forgotten all about them for several decades - rock 'n' roll lifestyles an' all that

apparently the tapes came from Tony Conrad's collection.

It's amazing the amount of stuff that Tony has been instrumental in getting released, esp. when knowing that a whole lot of his stuff was destroyed in a flood back in the 1980s.

one thing I would've liked to hear...when i interviewd Mayo Thompson he mentioned recording with John Fahey in the early 70s, but the tapes were destroyed in a fire or something.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

they were lost, and they're totally not coming back. There is the live stuff, tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

live stuff of Mayo and Fahey? Where?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 24 May 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

on the Red Crayola Live 1967 2CD that came out on Drag City some years ago.

My editor was kind enough to send me that Sun Ra Research cd and I really like that. Dunno how recent it is though. and there isn't really any music on it. well, a little music. It is archival though. My favorite part is when Sonny starts talking about firing his band and hiring happy white kids with freaky hair and teaching them to play space music.
