Arthur Russell "You Did the Right Thing When You Put That Skylight In"

"You have did the right thing when you put that skylight in... it gives more light/ it makes your place, your pad, a nicer place to be/ Now thats a good job"

"new" Arthur Russell song on the new Wire Tapper (free with the mag, in the UK at least) from a soon come "unreleased 1985 album Corn" (the wire).

...also talk about other songs with mundane subject matter please.

this song actually successfully compensated for my grumpiness at having paid for another issue of the wire, which was good

corn is one of the records that went to the calling out of context comp, i believe: i mean, i think it sez somewhere this is a "wire exclusive"

Galaxie 500, that song on On Fire:

I went into the drugstore,
I went in back and got a coke,
I stood in line and ate a twinkey,
I stood in line I had to wai-ai-ait.

Godley & Creme, "I Pity Inanimate Objects"

I pity inanimate objects
Because they can't move
From specks of dust to paperweights
Or a pound note sealed in resin
Plastic Santas in perpetual underwater snowstorms
Sculptures that appear to be moving
But aren't
I feel sorry for them all
What are they thinking
When they arrive at a place
Do they sigh with disappointment
And when they leave
Do they have regrets?

'Private Number' by William Bell and Judy Clay always seems a strange song to me. The disparity between the subject of the song (a simple misunderstanding over a changed phone number, quickly rectified) and the emotion with which it's sung is puzzling.
