Hearing "Crimson & Clover" in Coffee And Cigarettes made me fiend for yet more examples of this micro-genre. Weird mono FX a plus.

Can't go wrong with a good Tommy James and the Shondells compilation.

the banana splits "i enjoy being a boy," sort of, though i'm sorry to say there's no weird mono fx in there.

any number of early magnetic fields songs might also qualify.

"Green Tambourine" Lemon Pipers. They were a decent Ohio garage band w/proto-prog leanings who got roped into the Buddha bubblegum factory.

"Indian Giver" is the best 1910 Fruitgum Company song. I really need to get a bubblegum comp. Recommendations?

Thunderclap Newman- "Something in the Air"

They were more of a one hit wonder, but it has that spacey feel like "Crimson and Clover".

"Wig Wam Bam", "Little Willy", Sweet had a lot of this stuff.
"Go All the Way," Raspberries!

mike -- the bubblegum comp to get is varese sarabande's "bubblegum classics," vols. 1-3. so absolutely definitive as to render any discussion about alternatives pointless.
