although donna summer's version knocks spots off it.
What criteria did you use to pick this song?
I'd imagine that we haven't heard the worst song ever. Although that 'score my goal' thing by DJ Otzi would come somewhere close (and yes, if there are any DJ Otzi lovers out there, I'm willing to defend my decision).

Nah, cuz "Handbags & Gladrags" is a cover of a GREBT 60's Mod Drama song, and the song is far too good for The Stereophonics to be able to turn it into something absolutley vile - they try their best, granted, but clearly the songs that suffer from being *written* by them as well as performed by 'em are much worse off.

The worst "song" ever recorded, I mean.
I was thinking more about something from either Peter Gabriel of Phil Collins. Both of the former-Genesis frontmen have committed some egregious crimes against the human race.
What fresh insanity is this.
― Trayce, Sunday, 18 January 2009 23:19 (seventeen years ago)
omg I like Yellow and it one of about 3 coldplay songs that I like (given the ones that made it to the radio)I like trouble.
what I'm surprised about is how many people really like this songman I love kevin ayers stuff but Caribbean moon, yellow yellow lol

didn't somebody on ILM discover a Moody Blues track that was pretty much systematically unendurable...?
that being said, I don't suppose any of yous wd know what the worst song ever recorded since all of you seem to (wisely) stay away from the nu-alternative metal stations on the radio, but let me just say:
any song by Coldplay>>>>>>>>>>>Three Days Grace
― Test Tube Teens from the Year 1754 (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 19 January 2009 14:26 (seventeen years ago)
I've said this before, but... the final five seconds of Stevie Wonder's 'I Just Called To Say I Love You' make it the worst song ever recorded.
Go on - try it. Click to the end of this: and tell me I'm wrong.
ARGH.
― Background Zombie (CharlieNo4), Monday, 19 January 2009 14:44 (seventeen years ago)
It's a good ending, if only because it's implicitly stating "Song is now over"

it's cheesy-funny...thank you 80s!
― Test Tube Teens from the Year 1754 (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 19 January 2009 15:47 (seventeen years ago)
It was just meant as a 'jingle' in the movie "the woman in red", wasn't it?
I guess if Stevie knew it'd go on to become his biggest hit, he'd have put a bit more into it.
― Mark G, Monday, 19 January 2009 15:49 (seventeen years ago)
yea...dopey ending or not, there's no way its the worst song ever...
(lol perhaps that ending is the aural equiv to the ellipsis I end my posts with? lol I am ILMs worst poster evah...)
― Test Tube Teens from the Year 1754 (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 19 January 2009 15:55 (seventeen years ago)
I just heard Yellow while purchasing a baguette. The bendy guitar bits are nice enough that it can't really be "worst song ever recorded".
In my heart of heart's I think I've always known that the worst song ever recorded---which is a true honour, really---is Sarah MacLachlan's "Aida". That song is truly horrendous.
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 11:00 (seventeen years ago)
Ugh, the way "Adia"'s chorus hovers around that one note... the way she rhymes "innocent" with "innocent".
It's entirely lacking that campy hippie charm that makes songs like "I Will Not Forget You" compliment the grocery shopping so well.
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 11:04 (seventeen years ago)
give me ten radios all playing "Adia" at once over one playing "Yellow"

I went to the Coldplay show. Initially I thought I should add a disclaimer, (like, my boyfriend is a fan), but I don't feel like I need to justify anything, the show was great. J'appuie Coldplay.
Yellow was conspicuously worse than any other song they played that night. The feeling of being in a room with 20,000 people holding their breath was pretty amazing, yes, but what a lousy song. Yellow, The Scientist and Fix You were easily outshone by (context-sympathetic) gems like Politik, Don't Panic and Clocks. And to their credit, most of the songs off Viva La Vida sounded, actually, really lovely.
― Owen Pallett, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 21:06 (seventeen years ago)
Coldplay may or may not be a bad band, but I think they catch a lot of shit that should be directed towards All That You Can't Leave Behind.
― May the Circle Be Unbroken (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 00:09 (seventeen years ago)

i prefer 'shiver'
― Cooking From A Stovetop (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 00:10 (seventeen years ago)
I would virtually nominate every pop ballad ever created. Whats with that tendency to take a painfully slow and dull song and expand it over 5 minutes of annoyinh wailing and orchestral crescendos? Case in point:
Celine Dion - My heart will go on (most of her catalogue might well apply)Aerosmith - I dont wanna miss a thing
― Moka, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 00:18 (seventeen years ago)
Sarah Mclachlan - Angel
Coincidentally this 3 I mentioned appeared on soundtracks, so perhaps its the hollywood ballads which I despise.

"Yellow" sucks, but it's not a patch on "My Humps."
Hey, JKP, are you JKP on MG?
― staggerlee, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 03:34 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, but don't tell anybody.
Song I hate is "Sugar Shack". That song got a vote on a recent poll. There's a really good band out of Houston called that, and I'm thinking "there's a crazy lil' place up on the tracks, doot doot da do do dooo doodoo, da doodoo doodoo doodoo."
― james k polk, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 06:28 (seventeen years ago)
If you remove "Yellow", Parachutes would actually be a damn good album. I am an unabashed pre-X&Y Coldplay fan.
Violet Hill would win worst song ever recorded for me. What a disappointment.
